Great grade on the Maris! I Picked up these 3 balls in a trade this week. All MLB authenticated as game used balls. Stiener stickers for the autographs. Neat items.

Jeter GU signed ball June 14 2006. Jeter was 2 for 3 in the game

I have been working to get this card back for four months. I got it in the mail Friday.

This is by far the most rare Ric Flair card raw or graded.

    image
  • Mark, those will look great with your Bryce and Chipper signed balls.

Nice Trout Mike - I read that he sold you that on his quest to obtain the Mantle. Glad another board member gave you a good deal.

This is by far the most rare Ric Flair card raw or graded.

Whys it so rare? And what happened to your original one? Did you upgrade I assume.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Mark I really don't know why. In 1986 when these were released the NWA and AWA were really starting to fall behind to the WWF. They were packed inside Carnation Cocoa Mix and came two to a box.

My best guess is that it was a regional issue of some kind as Vince McMahon was really playing hard ball at the time and tried to put them out of business.

In the past few months a few have shown up on EBAY but you can go six months without one even surfacing.

I bought this one raw and submitted it myself in May of 2011. I listed it on EBAY just for the heck of it and sold it for $200 which was a very strong price at the time. I figured I would be able to find another one.

I was wrong. I contacted the guy I sold it to and over the past four months we finally came to an agreement so I could get it back.

There may be others of these surface and perhaps a higher grade but with only two ever graded that tells you all you need to know.

This is the original scan from my Photobucket account.

LMFAO - Please tell me it wasn't to 1980scollector. That man is killing it flipping stuff around chasing that 52 Mantle. Sorry man but that made me crack up when I read it. Too Crazy!

Fleer Jordan Rookie is hands down my favorite card. I wanted a PSA 9 but went for the BGS 8.5 instead. It hangs with most PSA 9's I've seen and I picked up for under VCP low.

This just arrived to join the #57:

Did you get this at the S. Florida show you attended yesterday? I'm in central Fla. and plan on attending that show soon. Beckett will be on site for one of their upcoming shows.

No, I didn't get anything there yesterday. I just went because my buddy wanted to gab some cards so I went with him. That Maris I just purchased off eBay. And yes, Beckett will be on site next month. Its usually the best show of the year. JSA is there this weekend. Message me if you want to meet up. Always interested in meeting up with other fellow board members just to say hi.

Just picked this up. It looks great just a little off t/b. I might cross it to a PSA holder and hope for a 9. Although to me, I think Beckett got it spot on subs and all.

I saw this today at a local card show. $725. I did not take the plunge on it, but I did pick up some other wax packs.

I did pick up these. The 77s are very clean. I may send these to PSA but I'm thinking of ripping some of the others. One of the 75 minis has a slight tear so I'm pretty sure that is going in the rip pile. image

Nice Killebrew. From the scan, the Lower left corner may keep it out of a 9, but I would submit it.

    Thanks,

I get pretty excited about getting any SF Giants stuff I'm looking for, regardless of value or price.

    Here's a few I picked up recently...

Hector Sanchez (his only MLB card) and Eric Surkamp's Gold REF AU...

Jean Machi. A career minor league pitcher got called up last week for the first time. 30 year old rookie. No MLB cards, so I had to hunt down his first minor league card (Muckdogs?).

  • I REALLY love this card.

  • Foo,

I was 13 when that card blew up the hobby. I remember looking through a Beckett and the card was listed for big bucks. So, since I knew everything at age 13 and I wanted big bucks, I rode my bike to the local Walgreens and they were selling the complete factory set. I forget how much it cost, but imagine my surprise when I found Billy and all that was on that knob was a little black box. And to quote Ralphie from A Christmas Story when he realized his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring told him to drink more Oval-tine, I said quietly to myself "Son of a Bit**"

    Nice card.
  • The card did blow up but honestly it wasn't more than $6 bucks back in the day. That was still a lot of money to me for a card I remember thinking being a 11 year old kid. The Billy Ripken error FF card still continues to climb in price as time goes on.

I never pulled it out of a pack as a kid but I did later on learn that they were only inserted into the first wax boxes of 1989 Fleer and once they realized the error, they quickly tried to stop production of all FF cards and insert them with various distributions. Ripken has been quoted as saying that he believes Fleer knew exactly what they were doing. I have pulled out 2 of these cards out of 3 boxes and this was one of them that I submitted. The other was more OC and I sold it on eBay for $16 raw.

Can you imagine owning that bat today?! He says he doesn't know what happened to it though I'm sure it would fetch a lot of money being one of the most infamous bats ever in the game.

  • << <i>The card did blow up but honestly it wasn't more than $6 bucks back in the day. >>

That's not true. It was going for WAY more than that when it was first discovered. We didn't pull ours for a couple of weeks after it was found out and it was selling for more than $50 then.

  • I was in college when that card first came out. I remember vividly one of my buddies in my dorm pulling that card. I think he sold it for about $80 immediately afterward. Now that was a lot of $ to a college kid.
  • I've shown it before and people probably don't want to see it again but here's mine. It's a 1933 Kansas City Blues stock certificate issued to the infamous TJ Pendergast and signed by club secretary Tris Speaker.

  • Hi Cwazzy,

I just went back and checked some old Becketts. The card was listed at $30 when it came out and this was about Aug of 89. By '90, the card was down to $16 till it eventually dropped down to $6. The card today is listed at $20. A PSA 9 currently sells for about $30. I have no doubt that some were selling for a premium of more than $50 raw back in the day until they probably realized that they weren't as rare as everyone first thought. Still one of my favorites in my collection.
