1959 topps Mickey mantle help

My dad and I are completing the 1959 topps set and are looking to make the mantle purchase now. We found this one but was wondering if someone could guide us as to the condition of it. Any idea what this card may grade from the scans below? What would be a fair offer for this card? Thanks for any opinions.

Thad

Ps,

I asked the seller for a better scan of the card not inside the top loader. It may seem that the corners are a little fuzzy, but not sure if that's just the top loader.

  • That looks like a PSA 4 - also, if thats a crease on the lower left corner - looks like some sort of indentation... and if it is, could even be a 3.

Good luck on your 59 collection.

I'd say that would likely grade a 5 on a good day. However, PSA seems to grade pretty strictly on Mantle cards IMO. VCP average on that card in 5 is $275. And just in case, PSA 4 is $187.

Good luck, I've always liked the '59 set.

Yep, looks like a 3-4, barring any flaw that can't be seen in the scan--I am assuming that the little white speck on his face is lint. Very nice eye appeal though.

I agree with Foo, that if there is ANY crease or wrinkle, you're certainly in the 3-4 range. If this did get a 4, it should be a 4.5 due to the centering. Just so you know:

"On PSA EX-5 cards, very minor rounding of the corners is becoming evident. Surface wear or printing defects are more visible. There may be minor chipping on edges. Loss of original gloss will be more apparent. Focus of picture may be slightly out-of-register. Several light scratches may be visible upon close inspection, but do not detract from the appeal of the card. Card may show some off-whiteness of borders. Centering must be 85/15 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the back."
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

Thanks guys for the input. I don't know vintage very well and my dad and I do not submit anything for grading. However we wanted a nice mantle card for this set. We planned on spending a little more on the star and key players (mantle,Gibson,etc..) and want them to be the focus for the set.

I will get the new scans he sends me up when I get them and will ask about the crease as well.

    Thanks again,

That would be a beautiful 4.5
