Firstly, how would you grade this? Second, I need help determining my options here ... It's very dark with faint hints of green in some of the fields, primarily obverse around the commemorative date "1790" ... acetone? q-tip?
I love and collect these French Revolution Era coins and tokens. This is one I've always liked.
BTW, the first issue of this type has the year date in Roman numerals. But they're scarce. I've only seen 2 offered in the last few years with the Roman numerals. The non-Roman numeral dates are actually easy to find. There's usually a few listed on eBay every week.
As for an exact grade I can't say. But it's easy to find ones in better condition.
Yes after three months of trying I finally uploaded my avatar. Wish I could say it was inspired by your thread, but this has been one of my favorite coins for years. Bought it raw, graded PCGS pr69dcam.
It's the same coin I posted in your thread, though - Greece 500 Drachmai - and BTW saw my first actual real-life owl drachma at a show last week!

That's a fascinating snap shot of the era.

PS- I see you've adopted a "coin within a coin" for your avatar. Cool! Much better than some silly sports team logo!
