That's crazy ... on July 22 Rick also sold one for $10,100.00.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
What is VCP on a 9. I have a BGS 9 with two 9.5 (centering and surface) 9 (edges), and 8.5 (corners). I bought it on ebay for $1225 about a year ago and just seems like they are going up and up.
Am waiting for another stock market crash here, which by the way will happen, before I can pick up some more at $900 a copy, PSA 9, like I did a few years ago. The current market in my opinion, is a bit overpriced...... I will never spend $1,200 on any card made before 1980, in this case your better off parking your money in Mantle PSA graded cards IMO.....

Agreed. Lots of untapped post-'80 supply out there.
Lots of supply...not so many with pristine centering like that lurking in those $350 unopened packs. The demand for such elite examples of this card will always outstrip the available supply.

Yup, an immaculate 86 MJ is the largest exception to the post-'80 rule. Pent-up demand is there........clearly.
That is a true PSA 10 in question, yet I still would prefer to own that card in a BGS holder with PRISTINE 10 centering. I just think centering of that card separates the men from the boys and I like how BGS quantifies it right there on the slab. So few have that 10 centering. It's all personal preference though, as you can't go wrong either way-- and this one shows that the perfect centered ones can and do cross between companies; even though every company wants to show how tough they are on grades, sometimes a card is so nasty it cannot be denied, kind of like how MJ was getting his 30 every night no matter what you tried to do, lol.
Just the last few days on this forum, how many threads have we seen regarding the 86 Fleer Jordan? And it's not even basketball season. Point being, the popularity and demand for the card should always be sky high. I am looking for a PSA 9, but the 1700-2000 price tag seems out of wack

I have to agree with the write-up it got in the Top 250 Sportscards book: the most important modern card in the hobby. I mean, I was a Knicks fan, heartbroken watching those Ewing/Oakley/Mason/Harper teams, and I like many others was rendered speechless by how dominant Jordan was. Just a towering legend in his sport.

I seem to recall that during the dot-com boom of the late 1990's-2000, the Jordan rookie in PSA 9 was selling in upwards of $2500. So it's only retracing steps.
I'd be weary of the 11k sales on Gem Mints. It's possible that the bidders may believe it can cross to a BGS 10 but to pay twice the normal market value, that's a big gamble.

I did it once, and managed to get out alive, not completely bankrupt, and completely refocus my collection.
