If you were selling a conditionally rare common date world gold coin, how would you go about selling

I have a conditionally rare russian ruble, it's a common date, and I don't know the best way to sell it. Which auction house is best for world coins, or would it be a teletrade, ebay item?

The coin is a gold 5 ruble in MS-68.

Thanks for your thoughts

I would suggest Heritage or Goldberg- I would not teletrade or ebay such an item

I would teletrade it if you are looking for a buyer like me that finds stuff on the cheap on there. I have bought rare Austrian and Ethiopian gold on there for like 50% of spot in the past.

I think New York (NYINC show in January) would be a good venue for this, assuming you want USD out of it.

You could try "The New York Sale" folks: Baldwins in the UK or Markoff in the US. They do a big Russian sale every year at the NYINC. Or CNG, who also do a similar sale at the same time.

And there is always Stacks-Bowers-Ponterio who do the official show sale during the show.

I'm not convinced Heritage is the way to go on this one.

Forget Goldberg, and definitely not Teletrade.

Of all the listed I would recommend Stacks/Bowers or CNG for selling at best price.

If it were me, I would put it on eBay for a 30 day stretch with a high BIN and see if you get any interest. If not, pursue option B.

This exactly what I was going to post as I scrolled to the bottom of the page. Start off with the BIN that you want, considering fees. Try it for a little time first. If you wanted to judge interest, you can put a higher BIN and then add the Make Offer option. If it doesn't sell, you're out very little or sometimes nothing in listing fees, then you can go to one of the other recommended auction companies.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I've put in an email to D. Markov auctions to find out their commission rate, but may just try the ebay BIN route for a week or two. I saw a 5 ruble in 67 sell for 555.00 and have seen several others, also in 67, w/a BIN of anywhere between 1100-2500. I'm going to calculate some fees and maybe try ebay for just a bit.

Thanks everyone, I'll try and remember to post the result.
