Downgraded?

In the near future, I will be sending in a bunch of PSA 8's in the old holders hoping for at least a half point up grade. I will, of course, be selective in choosing which ones I send in. Just the ones I feel are at the top of their grade, well centered, etc...

My question is, "is it possible to receive a downgrade?" After reading the thread about the Shell, and how subjective or inconsistant (take your choice of words) grading is, it would be my luck to send in an 8 and get back a 6!!!!

So, have any of you ever heard of or had this happen to you?image

  • It hasn't happened to me personally but yes, it does happen. Moving 2 points up or down on a scale (depending on the original grade of course) can be quite common but moving from an 8-10 doesn't happen unless someone at PSA is up to no good - but we all know that *never* happens.

As far as if what your doing is a good idea? I only think you should do that if your 8 looks has a real shot at being a 9 because if you resubmit and it doesn't bump up, at least you would like the 8 to still stick but if your card is a borderline 8, then I wouldn't because then you risk of it coming back or 7 and we want to get bumped up, not down.

Submit them with a minimum grade of 8 and you'll be fine.

If you are sending in already graded PSA cards for a review, they will only put cards that grade higher in new holders. So, if you send in a graded PSA 8 for review, it will be sent back to you as-is if it does not deserve an upgrade.
  • Thank you for the information, this helps a lot.
