I think I wore one of those playing at Farmer's Oval ballfield in Glendale, Queens, LOL!!

<< <i>Heh...I was such a nerd, I wore my Reds helmet to school...very fond memories. >>
Me too, and to Dodger games. Didn't make me very popular in the bleachers at Dodger Stadium, but at least that was before they beat people to a pulp for wearing opposing teams gear.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
That's funny cause I thought of those the other night while was watching the Orioles game. Their current design is the same design of my favorite 70s helmets. I had a bunch of those as a kid
The OP's helmets aren't mini helmets but actually plastic replicas of batting helmets you could actually wear. I had an A's helmet and wore it a lot in "real" games (this was before there were standards for batting helmet safety) despite the warning in the brim. Long story short, it broke when I took one in the noggin one game. Surprised I can still remember that...
I remember having several Reds helmets. They were the coolest especially playing a pick-up baseball game at the park with your friends. Felt like Pete Rose at the plate with that hat on.
Love the Padres hat. Doesn't it make you feel old when the younger kids call that hat "retro"?
guys who had these - do you remember the awesome feeling when one of your buddies would smack you on the top of the head and the 4 plastic tabs that held the adjustable band would embed themselves in your skull? Payback was always forthcoming at some unexpected time.

I remember those vividly. I had a Cubs helmet. As far as safety goes, they were worthless. Those 4 plastic pins holding the insert would dig into my head when any kind of pressure was applied to the helmet. We would play baseball in the neighborhood wearing these things and using aluminum bats and tennis balls to keep from breaking windows. Good times!

And it had a very distinct plastic smell that only applied to those helmets. I'm sure it was a chemical that will eventually come back to haunt us.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

And the inside ALWAYS had a light lining of dirt that would never go away
I remember the local carnival had one of those games where you could try and guess the speed of your pitch. If you guessed the exact speed, you could win a helmet. I must've played that game 50 times and had about a dozen different teams.
Then again, when you are like 8 years old, your speed isn't too hard to guess - it was probably either 13, 14 or 15 mph every time.

Too funny. This was the first thought that came to mind when I saw those pics. So many friend fights started with the slapping of these helmets. good memories.

<< <i>Sure do, although I first thought they were mini helmets, like the ones we use to get icecream in, untill I saw the second picture. >>

I had a few of those, too - but those came along in the early 80s, no?

as for the ice cream minis, many of them turned into headgear for stuffed animals.

Of course I remember them. They were even Dellwood Dairy sponsored giveaways at Yankee Stadium.
