Irrational buyers frustrate me

Can someone let me know if I am in the wrong on this one. Here is the situation:

Auction ended: 08/08/2012
Buyer paid: 08/08/2012
Total cost with shipping: less than $7

email from buyer: just wondering where my card is cause i havent gotten it yet

my response: It was put in the mail the day after you paid. I will respectfully ask that we give it another week to see if it arrives. If it does not, I will refund your money no questions. Are you okay with that?

email from buyer: you expect me to wait another week for my tiem and ask me if thats okay and no thats not okay i shouldnt have to wait 2 weeks for my item to get to me ill give it 2 day and if it aint here i will be filing a dispute with eba and tell them i havent gotten my item from you

my response: I appreciate you giving me 2 more days. Hopefully the post office will get it there by then.

It is rare that I come across this type of response.

Thoughts?

Yeah, he's a tool, but any first class mail item like a card shouldn't take 2 weeks. It does on occasion, but the norm is a lot less than that.

Delivery confirmation provides tracking that lets the buyer know where the card is at.

$1.64 is what it costs to print up your own postage with DC using the shipping tool Ebay provides.

I ALWAYS ship with DC, and I NEVER get questions like this from buyers.

He would have also been the first moron to complain if the shipping label shows less than the actual postage price. Tell him the PO claims 2-9 days on first class mail

I did not use DC on this. I generally don't for anything under $25. I take responsibility on that, hence my offer to refund without question. Even with my offer, I didn't expect to get that response.

DC is free when you print up shipping from Paypal or Ebay. Unless you're shipping in a PWE and a forever stamp, there's really no reason NOT to use Ebay's shipping system.

What he said. The guy probably has it, saw that it didn't have DC and realizes that he can get his money back and keep the card.

His response is irrational. What good will it do him to file a dispute? You've already offered him a total refund. Isn't it an ebay policy
for the parties involved to try to work out a solution to a problem BEFORE filing a dispute?

    Blocked.

Edited to add: I just noticed his ebay name. If that was created recently then that is troubling when combined with his attitude.

Funny, I am dealing with almost the exact same issue. I sold 9 cards at one, shipped them all out 1 week ago. Everyone else received their cards except one. I told him to wait until the end of the week and let me know. So what does he do? He opens a case with eBay today. WTF?

It's getting way too easy for buyers to scam sellers out of the money if we don't use tracking numbers, but I am going to have to now. No reason why this guy wouldn't have gotten his card and no reason why he couldn't wait a few more days, which tells me he may have already gotten it and has me by the cajones

I don't think he is giving you 2 more days, he may have said, "I'll give it 2 day" meaning today.

    "What do you mean?"

As in Aurora, Colorado-- where the mass murders were less than a month ago. Maybe just a coincidence but then again maybe a sicko.
If he has a lot of feedback then the name has probably been around longer than a month.

Edited to add: My curiosity got the best of me so I went back to read about the murders in Aurora. 27 injured_13 dead. I think he is way past irrationale and into deranged
    territory.

OP the response the turd gave you pretty much means he just recieved the item in the mail, noticed you didn't use delivery confirmation with tracking, nutted himself that he gets to rip you off via PayPal because of this, and doesn't want to wait a while before ripping you off.

Options at this point are to either ship him ASAP w/ a tracking number a random envelope, or plan to get raped by PayPal here shortly.

Again why do people not use delivery confirmation through the PayPal website even if it costs a few cents extra? Too many scammers on eBay these days who as soon as they see an item delivered without tracking, they proceed to claim where is my item and then file a claim.

I don't have access to a printer. I write out my envelopes and use the green sticker at the post office. For the lower priced auctions, I put stamps on them and drop them in the blue mail box outside where I work. The time I save from going to the post office during the day is worth the risk. Again, I know that I should have put DC on this, but who expects to deal with a lunatic like this? I've done a few hundred transactions in the past year or so and this one really stands out as unique.

There is also the outside possibility that the guy didn't get the card and just doesn't have any table manners.
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
  • For one, I think you handled this situation very professionally with your responses.

I also understand why you do not use DC on low priced items. Since you do not have a printer & are using the green labels, it cost you .80 for every one & if this only happens once in 100 times, you have saved $80 in DC charges. You will refund this guy $7, giving you a profit of $73 for the last 100 transactions. It's a lot like an insurance policy, but you have decided to be self insured.

What you should do now is take that extra $73 and buy a printer so you can make the labels & DC's.

I also agree, this buyer is an "opportunist" (inside joke)

In my profession before retirement, Casino Shift Manager, we busted this guy for capping a bet on a 21 table. Had him on film. As I was escorting him out the door, he was defending himself saying he did not do this. I told him I personally saw the film. He said "Oh". So I said to him something like what kind of person would do this. He said he was an "opportunist"!!!

At least state that orders may take up to 2 weeks 2 arrive. Give yourself a cushion.

get a printer and use the ebay shipping w/ free dc. will say u frustration.

If u live near albany ny stop by I will give u a new printer for free.

also, learn ebay dispute rules. The buyer must wait a period of time before filing and make an effort with you first

Ok, so the buyer reported this to customer service and eBAy refunded him the money and took it out of my paypal account. And I have no doubt the buyer has my card right now and is just a clown. It's only 10 bucks but it's the priniciple, and it's a colossal waste of time

Would any of you leave negative feedback for the buyer and most likely deal with negative feedback coming back or would you just let it go?

I know $10 sounds much worse, but it was less than $7.00 with shipping. You can't leave negative feedback for a buyer on Ebay. Also keep in mind that if you ship without confirmation services you have no right to complain when a problem occurs.

most recent update, I just received this email from buyer, aurora_27_13:

i will open a case and be posting a negative cause u cant tell me where my item is i shouldnt have to waste my time messaging you and contacting ebay cause i havent gotten the item i won from u but i guess if that what i have to do

Does eBay have any type of protection against negative feedback like this? I offered to refund his money and have been patient and there is no reciprocity on his part AT ALL!

Looking at the feedback that aurora_27_13 has left for others tells me you're not dealing with the salt of the earth here.

Shipping took longer then expected but arrived as stated -- Aug-08-12 06:16 -- (#170887191090)
(that item sold on August 1 and he left positive feedback complaining about long shipping times 7 days later - and very early in the morning at that)

Package was lost in the mail but seller made good and refunded my money -- Aug-02-12 10:48 -- (#170875676423)
(hmmm...this guy seems to have a problem getting his mail)

You might want to contact the seller of that second purchase and see if he shipped without DC and explain that the buyer is claiming to have not received your item either. If the story (and treatment) was the same for the other guy, it might be worth a quick note to eBay about their dbag buyer.

Just refund the money, tell him you are very sorry for the trouble and move on.

    It sucks.

    He's an a'hole.

However, we don't need 3 pages to sort out the mystery here.

You take your chances when you don't use DC. You know that. I do the same thing. Questions asked, especially from irrational people, refund and move on to the next deal... oh ya, and block them too!

  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
    Blocked.

I have a fun story that's not worth it's own thread... so I sold a couple dozen cards on ebay that were due to end about five days before I was to leave on a week-long vacation. In my mind, that gives most people enough time to pay and I can have everything shipped out before I leave (I don't mention my vacation in my auctions, I feel that's not a safe practice). As you can imagine, there is always "one" who doesn't play along. This doesn't really bother me, as it was only a $6.99 card. Being the honest and trust-worthy guy that I try to be, I went ahead and shipped out the card that hadn't been paid for yet, because I just know that once I leave for vacation, that person would pay, and I don't feel like hunting for a Post Office when I'm trying to spend time with my family at the beach.

Now this buyer happens to live in Ohio (same state I live in), so I know they received it within two days, if not one day from the ship date. I patiently wait a full week from when I shipped the card, and send them a kind reminder that I had shipped that card pre-payment, in good faith, since I was leaving for vacation and didn't want to ship it late due to my being away from home. I get no response. It's now been over two weeks since the auction ended, and ten days since I shipped the card. I filed a NPB today.

I find this sad more than anything. I mean I realize you're not supposed to trust anyone anymore, especially on ebay, but I just don't subscribe to that. I won't let the bad few change the way I treat people. So I got bit for seven bucks... if it were a $50 card I would have taken it with me on the trip. Still, it's a matter of principle.
