Any other boards out there for a card collector?

I'm a vintage collector, but not anywhere close to what seems to be the definition of vintage at places like Net54 in that my oldest card is early 60's. I'm looking for an informative, recreational community to post about cards, collecting, and the occasional OT convo. One where everyone wants to talk cards, not crap. One where everyone is genuine is their shared hobby/business interests, not out to grind axes over and over.

I'm serious. I want to talk cards and not feel like I need a shower every time I log on due to incessant mud-slinging and pathological attempts at playing king of the hill. I don't know if anyone else feels quite like I do, but in all honesty my love of collecting is being ruined by not being able to "talk cards" without all the other stuff getting in the way. What fun is collecting, or any other hobby, if you can't share it with other like-minded people?

I hope this doesn't come across as just another one of those "I'm leaving, beg me to stay" posts we all know and hate. I'm not taking my ball and going home, and I'm sure my staying, leaving, lurking or posting status won't affect anyone in the least. I'll still watch for the rips, join in when the mood strikes, and hand out the attaboys when someone lands a white whale or a great pop. But for me, "the terrorists won" and this place is no longer a source of enjoyment.

  • Let me know when you find this place. image

Quite honestly, the internet REQUIRES a filter if you intend for it be an enjoyable place. Trolls aren't going away ever. So it's up you to put on the thick skin and/or simply ignore negative posts.
  • the ones i've seen are mostly newer stuff, modern talk, etc.

even with the negative crap - i still enjoy my time here - hang in there - for me the good guys and their enthusiasm far outweigh the garbage... i learn a ton here and meet good people everytime i post or do a group break.

if a better board exists, we oughta be slingin' it there. or it only gets play in Utopia.

we have all had our ups and downs as members here. maybe that's what makes us special. i've seen the dips and recoveries......"respected" board members take their ball and leave, and other folks join in to become newly "respected" board members.

or it could just be the same guys with different names.

take what you can learn from this nutty group and make good use of it. try to give something back. that's it.

Trust me - I have a VERY well-developed filter. I have posted on a lot of IT-related boards over the years in different capacities, and those guys wrote the book on anti-social behavior. You haven't lived until you've seen internet fights where people CAN hunt you down and F with you without even leaving their desk.

Thing is this - the need of some here to take over perfectly good threads, and to push good threads off the main page with carpet-bombing isn't tolerated at better-modded boards, which this place certainly ain't. It's getting harder and harder to weed through the crap to find the good stuff, and then to weed through the crap that gets posted IN the good stuff. Guess it's just becoming too much work for me when its supposed to be fun.

The PSA boards are like a roller coaster; you have your good times and bad. We are going through the bad now. It sometimes gets frustrating with the Alts and the thread bombings. I have taken the course of PM'ing members that have similar interests or that seem like good guys and developing friendships that way. I have learned alot from CpaMike, Grote and DavidG1966 about un-opened, found a fellow Reds collector in BGSXYMARK and 1980scollector found great general knowledge guys like miconelegacy, MacrosB, thunderdan, 70ToppsFanatic, BPorter26, ThoseBackPages, MBMiller25 and corvette1340. Sorry if I missed anyone. Heck, I even have guys PM'ing me when a cool Reds item comes up for sale (thanks DavidG1966 image)

I have been on the boards since April of 2009 and have PM'd with 221 people. I guess you get from the boards what you make of it. I try and tune out all the BS and focus on the friends I have on the board and shooting the breeze with them. Several of the guys on here I talk to several times a week. Sometimes nothing more that to find out what we have picked up lately.
    Just my 2 cents.

This board is solid, hang in there and don't get discouraged. We can't keep away all the bad influences that the Internet world allows, but
we can keep posting fun rips and awesome new pick ups and raise interesting questions because that is what we love and in the end the
trolls/alts/ will simply be as insignificant as they truly are.
Don't give in because that is losing.

  • This board is absolutely worthless nowadays. It used to be good, but it has run its course. The other boards aren't really much better. There really aren't too many forums for what you want. Many of thye forums discuss the shiney crap. Signingshotline.com is good for show signings, sportscollectors.net is good for TTM addresses, gameuseduniverse is good for uniforms authencity questions. Maybe you could just get together with other collectors at shows or create a private Yahoo group or such.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
