1982 Wrestling All Star Bruiser Brody PSA 10 on ebay over $800 now

I put in a few bids but this is out of my league, a Pop 1 and there are a few heavy hitters searching for high grade wrestling cards.

Will be a fun one to watch.

Wow.. The guy from wrestlingprints who had all of the extra cards that were never packaged in sets must be kicking himself after seeing the demand for high condition on this set. All of his cards were in the 7-10 range since the corners never got damaged from being wrapped in the cello wrapper the sets were placed in I really wish I bought more than 1 measly card from that site when I had the chance...

This is the only PSA 10 I do not own from the 82A.

There are only two cards out of the thirty six I do not own in the top grade and this is obviously one of them.

There is still time on this auction so we shall see what happens.

  • Dpeck,

You are in a very familiar position.....I have a 114 card set on the registry that I am 3 cards away from a perfect 10. I almost wish that they do not come up on ebay as I will lose my mind on the bidding....no self control.

Remember, you have 2 kidneys for a reason, get that Brody, and enjoy the r and r from the surgery.

I do my best to find the sellers and try and buy them before they hit EBAY.

This card is the perfect storm.

I still have some upper cuts in me and this battle is not over.

Change your handle to "esnipe10,000" and call it a day. Good luck with this.. I know the feeling when a card finally comes up for sale that you've been waiting for a while. Unfortunately for me the seller and I were way to far apart on the Mira cards I was looking for

My guess for final price: $980!!
  • gregmo32gregmo32 Posts: 2,648 ✭✭✭
    I don't think $980 will be close.

To "true" wrestling fans, Brody is one of the handful in the conversation of greatest of all time, with a tragic death ending his unique career before he could make the move to "cash in" with the major companies he had steadfastly avoided his entire career.

    An absolute legend.

If any of you wrestling geeks would like to read his biography, I have it here. I will ship it to the first one to PM me their mailing address. A very good read.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

    Austin Idol PSA 10

WOW this sold for a huge price. I had a chance to buy this card directly from the seller for $1,300 and just could not justify spending that much on the card and quite frankly did not see anyone else doing so. I was wrong and the collector who has put together a tremendous 1983 set pulled the trigger.

  • wrestlingcardkingwrestlingcardking Posts: 4,555 ✭✭✭✭
That is huge money for that card in my opinion. If he is willing to go that for the Idol PSA 10 when there is a Brody PSA 10 on ebay now... Hmm........

There are still seven cards that seperate us but he is definately bringing the heat.

The Austin Idol card is a tremendous example. This card is super tough in a PSA 9 let alone a PSA 10 and it will most likely stay a pop 1.

The good news is I have a number of cards that are very rare from the sets and it is nice to see big numbers like this.
  • wrestlingcardkingwrestlingcardking Posts: 4,555 ✭✭✭✭
If you didn't buy the lot pre-ebay a while ago you would really be feeling the heat..... there is still 1983s to be graded but it will be expensive for him to pass you. Just getting one card in a PSA 10 that you do not have will make it that much tougher for the next guy.....

Great analysis, Brokensoul has to hope that a few of DPeck's Pop 1s become 2s. DPeck gets the tie-breaker by posting his first, so not only does Brokensoul have to "match" him, but has to surpass DPeck. I have always felt that this was DPeck's most vulnerable set due to the availability of these cards still in sealed sets and the likelihood that there are many to grade yet. I do think that this lead is still very difficult and expensive to overcome, and if David just a time or two opens his wallet for one of the next Pop 1s, or let's just say that Idol PSA 10 becomes a Pop 2, Brokensoul just paid a lot of cash for that card when there are many possible to have graded yet. I am rambling but it is fun to watch and I am sure that DPeck has done his own calculations on this as well. Great for wrestling collectors all around and what makes the Set Registry fun.

A few months ago when it really became apparent that he was seriously making a run at these sets I did buy four cards that I needed on the private market for prices I was not all that comfortable paying becuase I could see the math was quickly changing.

The one card I bought from that lot that I was more comfortable with the price tag was the Captain Lou Albano PSA 10 and that ran me $500. That is a super tough card with only two PSA 9's and the one PSA 10.

I own one of the PSA 9's and so does an EBAY buyer Billbrasky. He was the guy who early on was buying up higher grade material and he also has the other PSA 10 Superstar Graham which is a very tough card.

Wow, y'all are serious image I'm happy to have my signed beaters. Good luck David, I hope you break the guy/gal that's trying to catch you. Or even better, I hope that the right ones don't pop so he/she can't beat you no matter how much money they have. You are THE MAN when it comes to this set and everyone knows it. Even if he/she finally gets you, you will still be the people's champion!

It's good you stick to a plan but man...with the limited supply I don't know if I could've shown that sort of restraint.

I wonder what the other guy's ceiling was...
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
There are 10 PSA 9's and I own 6 of them and the winner owns the other 4. I know for fact Bruiser Brody is one of his all time favorites.

I was afraid it was going to cost north of a $1,000 for sure and just decided to let this one go.

In all reality I have only paid that kind of money for 2 of the cards in my collection and with as thin as this market is if this card becomes a Pop 2 down she goes.

The 1982 A is the set that I have where I am the safest with 34 of the 36 cards in their top grade. I have 15 Pop 1's and 5 cards that are not Pop 1's but I own all of the cards in the top grade.

Quite frankly I never envisioned it would ever cost this much to advance my sets from where they are at and sometimes you just have to say no.

He got some revenge years later. This one is a little tough to watch.

This looks like a legit auto to me.

I looked up the date written in the lower right hand corner and he did indeed wrestle that night.

I recently purchased the book Brody and one of the photos from inside is a program from 1976 with the photo used for his 1982 Wrestling All Stars card.

A few minutes ago I did a search and found the picture on a Wrestling News from 1975.

    Brody

I need to track one of these down.

    Bruiser Brody

After reading the book that was released by his wife and close friend I was left wanting more and did some additional searching and came across this book.

I just finished it today and it was a great read.

It was really cool hearing stories from so many of his peers. While no one would ever suggest anyone should be stabbed to death, after reading both books it isn't all that shocking.

Bruiser Brody didn't take crap from anyone and marched to his own beat.

One of the things I found in the book was he wrestled D+=k The Bruiser on April 1st 1979. My mom was busy giving berth to my brother Bill and I that day.

It was one year ago today that I added the Brody 10 to my set. The only other card I added to 1982 A set in the past year was a stronger copy of the Mil Mascaras in a PSA 9.

Hopefully the Harley Race shows up on EBAY. That is the only card from the set to have an upgrade in the grade assigned in the past 12 months from this set.

    BGS 9 signed Brody

I sent a few offers yesterday to the seller and a message and he didn't want to budge much. After thinking it over I couldn't pass this card up. It was graded in 2013 and is a straight 9 with a 9 auto grade. This signature looks exactly like the one that is showcased in the Japanese wrestling magazine that features lots of examples of what the performers auto's should look like.

I read both of the books on Frank Goodish and he was a very articulate man. This signature is from someone who fits that bill. There are a few other signed Brody's out there floating around in personal collections and I am extremely excited to add such a unique item to my collection.

It states on PSA's site that they will authenticate a Brody auto and I am curious if anyone knows if they have.

Edit to add: I sent the seller and email and asked what the back story was and the collection came from a long time employee of the Omni in Atlanta. Apparently it was torn down 15 years ago. Brody worked a lot of matches in major NWA based markets and Atlanta was a hot bed for wrestling in the time frame between when the cards were released and his death. I like hearing this response.

This card is not mine or DPecks but it is really great to see a POP 3 of this Bruiser Brody reach over $1100 with time to go in the auction. I will be following closely to see where it ends but I am out of the running at this price point. I still think there is someone lurking in the weeds that will come with a registered snipe before all is said and done.

I remember when I posted mine a few years ago the owner of the other copy was disappointed it sold privately as he would have been gunning for it. This card is going to be tough to win that is for sure.

Brokensoul6900 in the registry had taken a hiatus but won a few cards in the last PWCC auction and when he wants a card it won't be going cheap. Brody is his favorite wrestler and this is a real beauty.
