Kellogg's 3D cards in slabs

Anyone have problems with Kellogg's cards cracking AFTER being graded and slabbed? I would like to hear people's experiences. Are there any years that have a tendency more than others?

I recall some threads about this a few years back where folks were reporting that their Kelloggs cards were cracking post-slabbing.

Ok, the time stamp problem with these boards is getting annoying.

lol..funny....well, any experiences would be great to hear. If I buy them slabbed does anyone think they would be better cracking them out and put in sheets?

    Here's a thread from 8 years ago.

the end of the Kellogg's is near

Scary thought. Cards self-destructing inside their holders.

Do a search on "kellogg" in the Set Registry forum, you'll get lots of hits there on this particular topic of discussion.

There was a lot of talk about this happening back in '02-'03 when the '70 set was really hot. A fair amount of instances of cracking post slabbing, usually related to cold weather. I don't think PSA would guarantee the grades on them due to this.
'68 Topps 3d's are really the tough ones- I know of at least one person that spent 5 figures on a Clemente and it cracked. Kept me away from ever collecting that set, too big a hit to take.
FWIW I've got about 100 slabbed and have never had problems, but we don't get the temperature swings in L.A. that they do in other parts of the country.

I have just recenly (over the las 45 days) started buying these on ebay. I have purchased 60+ during this short time, mostly from two major sellers of these. I have cards from every year except 1971. I have no cracking on any of these. Some are older grades where the card is in a plastic sleave. I will keep an eye on these, although I don't know what I can or cannot do to have an effect on perserving of causing them to crack.

  • I put together 70-80% of the 1974 and 1982 Kellogg sets in mostly PSA 10 (Most have been sold but I still have about 20 if anyone is working on these sets).

I only had problems with one card cracking, although I did get one that appears to have cracked after grading. (I dont imagine a 9 can have cracks?). I think I still have it and can photograph if desired...but I imagine you guys can imagine heavy white lines (which is pretty much how cracks appear).

Anyway, I think it is a concern...but not a problem, if that makes sense. They will all likely crack up eventually, but most of us likely have little to worry about in our lifetimes.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • This is unusual. I only bought one Kelloggs card. It was a Jim Hunter from 1973 or 1974 I think.

I was going to buy more, but after two weeks of receiving it in perfect condition, it cracked right in the middle.

Now I have three raw sets from the 80's, and none of those have cracked in the middle.

Informative thread guys. I have probably 50 or so slabbed from the "easy" sets.

Does anyone know where the seemingly endless supply of Kellogg's in PSA 9 and 10 condition is STILL coming from? They couldn't have possibly all been inserted into cereal boxes. If my memory is correct, you could order the entire sets back in the year they were issued direct from Kellogg's.
