Ticket poppage.. Last 4 triple crown winners

Since no good cards really exist for the horses... I went the Kentucky derby ticket stubs to use as their rookie cards in my non major sport hof rookie card collection. Happy everything got slabbed.. But figures the best one got the worst grade..

Is one of those a crackout from the one that I subbed that you said PSA mislabeled?
  • eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭
Yup... The 73 and 77 tickets were in authentic slabs

Is it better to have those just as "authentic" or is it more desirable to have a number grade, even if it is low?
  • eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭
Its prob just better to just leave it authentic but its for my personal collection and all of my cards have number grades and I wanted these to match. Pretty much I wasted 30 bucks to cross over because I'm ocd

Do any of them sign TTM?
  • eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭
They are all dead. How would expect something that is deceased sign an autograph? That's just silly

My bad. RIP dead horses. If anybody has mailing addresses for Smarty Jones and Mine that Bird I'd appreciate it.

I would think the jockey signing the Secretariat ticket would be cool. I think he is still living....

Actually... Ronnie Turcotte will be at Saratoga this weekend to sign autographs and I was planning on going this weekend anyways..... So if psa can get the tickets shipped back to me before this Friday then I'll crack out the secrateriat ticket for the second time and get it signed.

Also mine that bird is a notorious ghost signer.. I would not use Ttm for him.

Picked up a 1955 Kentucky derby ticket to use as Willie Shoemaker's rookie. His first card is 1980 so thought the ticket from his first derby win would better representation

Anyone ever set a snipe way higher than you thought you needed to but just wanted to be sure you would win and then win the auction for close to your max bid.... well tgats what happended here. Im glad i won it but i didnt get a great deal. It's a 1937 Kentucky derby ticket won by War Admiral. I think this is the last triple crown winner I wanted for my collection. I just need some ticket for Man O War to finish the Race horse part of my collection

Nice ticket to the '37 Derby. Now if THAT were signed by his jockey, THAT would be some display piece. His jockey, Charles E. Kurtsinger, died nine years after winning the Triple Crown on War Admiral at the age of 39.

Edited to add: In 1973 (I was 15) I had my dad buy me a $2.00 win ticket on Secretariat at an OTB here in New York. It was something I wanted to save if he won. It's in my house SOMEWHERE, but not sure where it is!
    STAY HEALTHY!

    Doug

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
