New to Ebay store; will be out of town next week. Question....

I am new to an Ebay store. I know that you can put the store on vacation in the settings. It looks like I can block anybody from buying while I am gone, or I can let them buy, but they will know that I won't be able to ship until I return. However, it looks like my DSR's could get dinged if I let them purchase.

Am I right on all of that? What would you guys do? I will be gone Monday and will be back Friday.

  • When I went on vacation for a week, I put my store on the vacation setting and emailed the buyer after he bought something that I would not be able to ship until I get back. My DSRs did not take much of a hit and my feedback was still all positive. If you get a high volume of sales every day, emailing the buyers after they make a purchase might be kind of impractical. Since I only sold 2-3 things a day, it worked great for me.

The problem with me allowing buyer to buy is that I will not have internet access all week, so I would not be able to email buyers. We are going to a church camp, and it is out in the country with no cell signal.

I make the whole store invisible so that no one can make purchases. It isn't worth the headache if you have one or more people who don't read the little heading at the top stating that you are on vacation and then ding your DSRs or complain that it took too long to get the item.

I know someone who sells sports tchotchkes (i.e. flags, seat covers, toasters, etc.), and he always leaves his store up with the vacation note, and he ALWAYS has problems. To him, however, the lost income from making the store invisible is a greater evil than the feedback problems.

Putting the store in vacation/items available mode and including a message saying when the cards will ship won't have any significant affect on your DSR scores. It could potentially harm you however if you normally qualify for the FVF discount. A requirement of that is 90% shipping/load tracking within 24 hours of being paid and you won't be able to do that for sales through Thursday depending on when you get back Friday. So depending on your sales volume you could lose it so shutting it down completely could end up saving you money.
