Cut auto's /photos and getting them framed...

I am thinking about doing a frame to hang on the wall of Griffey. I kinda want to do this my self as a project to keep me busy, but was wondering where to start? I love the Sports Illustrated Photo of Griffey (see link below for pic). I would love to see some ideas of others who have done the same thing. You guys are really creative when it comes to making your own custom memorabilia. Please post ideas and Scans if you have them! Any tips are greatly appreciated!
Here is the link for the Griffey Picture I like. Would love to get this auto'd and blown up for a nice wall piece.

Here is my hockey wall. I did all the frames and mats myself except for the ones with the stick pieces in them, since I bought them already put together.

I love the matted work with the red trim. How much did something like that cost?
I made this real quick on my document program on my iPad. Do you think a ball player would ever sign something like this? My guess is no because of legal reasons. I thought it would be a cute and clever little piece to have. I understand the dates aren't accurate, but I would change it up if I ever got it signed. Just an idea....

Bought a mat cutter and cut them myself. Bought cheap metal frame from www.pictureframes.com.
In addition to what's in that pic I have down 7-8 multi-hole cast sets, biggest is a double mat with 17 holes per mat. I have saved a couple grand doing it myself.

No chance you will ever get that signed, but some careful matting could make it at least look like he signed it if you can find a small signed cut.

I see 2 of the SI's you like for sale right now, PSA/DNAed:
Option 1
Option 2
jeffcbay did something like this, he had a Ripken autographed jersey that he framed and surrounded with a Ripken card nameplate and Ripken jersey cards...
jeffcbay's Project
Of course, you don't need to get THAT elaborate if you don't want to.
I have seen some people spell the player's name out in the mat, and find base cards to fill the space of the letters. That's a cheaper alternative and can look nice if you find the right cards.
<< <i>I would try to find the SI you like autographed and authenticated, then make it the centerpiece in a large framed collage...

Wow! Thanks for the link! I really like the idea of having Ripken Spelled out. I may use that for Griffey!
I already checked those out on ebay but do not like the placement of the signature. Im going to be picky on this one if im going to invest in this!

One way to make this happen, is to first have him sign a blank piece of paper (and tell him where on the paper you want him to sign it). Then once it is signed, feed the paper back in the printer and print out your letter. Doesn't that accomplish the task?
That's funny! Now you are giving me some ideas!
Just think what you could put in some of these letters:
Thanks for loaning me that $20,000
Thanks for driving me home after we got so drunk
Thanks for setting me up with your girlfriend's friend and the foursome
etc.....

I agree! That could work. I was thinking about taking it a step further tho. Get an 8x10 photo of Jr and cut out a square in the photo for a signature. Put the letter behind the photo and he will sign in the square. IF I have to take it a step further, I will matte the whole thing. This would throw off any suspicious thoughts about what he is signing.
I thought this would be a cute thing to have. How many people have a signed letter from their favorite player giving them tips? It's kinda like I had a say in his awesome career!
