Special Thanks to BBCExchange at the National

Even though there are numorous threads about the National I needed here to start my own.

I wanted to give a special thank you to the Steve Hart and the crew at the Baseball Card Exchange booth at the National. For some reason they decided to have a FREE raffle and give away a rare 1990 George Bush card. If you think about it there was really no reason for them to have a raffle such as this. They did not need to put up such a high priced prize. Most of us would have been happy to win anything of any value.

With this gesture, the BBCardExchange folks continue to add to their reputation as the best in the hobby at what they do.

I was at the National from Wednesday thru late Saturday afternoon. I believe, on a whim, I filled out a raffle ticket on either Wednesday or Thursday morning. I certainly had forgotten about it. Saturday about 3PM I decided to call it a day. My feet were killing me from 3 1/2 days of walking the floor. I had no intention of returning as I was leaving for home on Sunday. (This morning) I almost gave away my VIP badge to someone about to enter the convention center.

...back at my hotel, my cell phone rang. I needed to come back to convention center and go see the folks at the BBCExchange booth.

So yes, I won the raffle.

The card and myself have now arrived back home to the Virgin Islands. As i was flying back today, I felt bad. At this National I had not spent one dime at the BBCExchage booth. Not Cool!! I will have to remedy that by perusing their website in the next few weeks. There was certainly lots of items that I saw at the booth that would go well with my decor. By the way I do not open vintage packs......I am one of those guys.

Congrats! I too am happy to see that a fellow CU member won the card. ENJOY! (Or maybe sell it and use the proceeds to buy some real cool unopened product from Steve.)

Congrats again on picking it up and here I thought Steve was coming over to show me you picked up one of those 1972 Baseball series 4/5 wax boxes, LOL. I'm glad I got to share the excitement with you.

Great job by Steve and all the guys at BBCE for running such a cool raffle. They are truly top notch!!!

Am I the only one on these boards that knows nothing about that card? What is it? What's so special about it?
  • Thanks Again to Steve and Reed and the rest of the BBCE guys for a great time. It was great fun ripping wax and getting to watch Cpamike rip some. HA HA!

Hey Danny, great to see you on here btw. Someone talked about this card in another thread, but from what I remember it was made by Topps for President Bush in very limited quanties and no copies were thought to have circulated in the general public, but somehow made it out there. Very, very rare 1990 card. I can't believe I said that, LOL.

I know nothing about it either...I am guessing it is rare and collectible?
  • Steve said it is worth around $6000 or so. Only 100 of them total i guess that were issued to Pres Bush who only gave them out to CIA and secret service. This is what i was told at the National.
  • Congrats on the Bush card. It's a modern Gem if you will. Much rarer than the NNOF.

Steve had mentioned they sold one for 7K, so that's a great prize!!!! Glad it went to a board member as well. image

Congrats on winning an awesome card! I would totally crack that sucker out and use it for an autograph. I'm pretty sure Bush does paid signing from time to time. I could see an autographed example of that card selling for well over $10k for the first one to hit the market.
  • Great to see a boardie win it!

What the heck is the folks at Huggins and Scott thinking listing two of these rare cards in the same auction?? ....and worse yet leaving them in a Beckect holder???

Anyone wants to get a good deal on one of these cards now is the time to bid.

I believe one sold on ebay recently....$7000+??

I know, I know...not supposed to be posting, but I just wanted to congratulate Jami for winning the George Bush card, and to thank all those who stopped by and/or hung out at the BBCE booth all week. I hope you all had a great time; I know I did even though it was a long work week. I'm back in Buffalo trying not to do anything for a week or two, but of course, I left Baltimore with a lot more leads that need to be chased down. Keeping my eye out for a 48 Leaf Paige, 1975 Topps Baseball racks with stars on top, centered Maris rookie, 1986/87 Fleer Basketball packs with Jordans showing, 1984 Donruss Baseball rack with Mattingly on top, 1980/81 Topps Basketball wax boxes, 1981 Topps Football rack case, and GPK 1st series boxes. Anything else?

  • Like you said Jami, BBCE didn't have to give anything away. It wasn't JUST ANYTHING either but something all of us would love to have in our collection. Hold on to that bad boy. It will only go up in value - not only that but its a very cool card with a super nice grade and its super rare.
