How long does a typical package sit in UK customs?

I sent a package 7/11/12 first class international registered mail to the UK. It was scanned in Great Britain on 7/19/12, and haven't had an update since. I understand the UK is busy and all right now - but shouldn't this have been delivered? Is it held up in customs? Does anyone know how long an item can be in customs before I end up having to write it off?

<< <i>It should be released soon. Ive had stuff take 3-4 weeks. >>
That sounds like a PSA answer when we inquire about an order status
I'm hoping you are right. We are past two weeks now. Hopefully it'll make it, and it's the Olympics holding it up.
