Any info on this medal.... Pope Clement IX 1667

I found a medal that was pretty much exactly like this one in a museum but don't know much other than that. Thanks in advance.

Italy. Papal Medals. Clement IX (1600-1667-1669), Giulio Rospigliosi. Election as Pope, Silver Medal, 1667, by Gaspare Morone, bust right wearing soft cap , rev mitre and crossed keys, CONSTANTIA SILVERII AD IMITAN, 32mm (Linc 1247; Roma 103, this piece ; Miselli 675). Extremely fine . Although the medal is attributed to Morone, Roma states “in the absence of concrete information one is tempted to introduce the name of Girolamo Lucenti”

    Here's a link

edited to add: The one in that Baldwins Auction doesn't have Romae underneath the keys (like yours does) ... mint mark?

Also, this one is bronze and definitely not silver. But thanks for the info!

The variety is indeed to commemorate the election of the new pope in 1667. The legend on the right side of the obverse indicates the date of the election, 20 June 1667. Obviously Romae refers to the conclave where the pope was elected. Papal medals usually have no mintmark.

However, the variety with Romae is actually Miselli 674; 675 does not have the city name. 674 is indicated only in gold, silver and bronze while silvered white metal is also indicated for 675.

Maybe just be my pix, but it sure looks like that's a cast copy bronzed over white metal/lead. Details are not very good, letters are "mushy" or mis-shapen and it appears that the bronze has worn off in places. Altho the link is a different variety, the workmanship in the link is much superior and more what one would expect to see on a genuine or offical restrike.

I was concerned about what seems to be like plating that rubbed off. Thought it might have been part of the treatment that was done to medals in the 1800's to make them look more red. I have higher resolution photos if you are interested in me sending those to you for further investigation.

I agree with STLNATS, definitely a cast copy in base metal which has been bronzed.

I agree too, with all the above. The paragraph I pasted and the link it came from were merely to help guide your search. Obviously the one you have isn't silver. Sorry for the confusion.
