Sample slab question

I have a 1963-D dime here in a PCGS 2 slab. I frequently see these only with 1964-dated coins with the occasional 1963, but never a 1963-D. Did a Google search but came up pretty empty. Anyone have any idea how many of these are around or what it's worth? Thanks!

<< <i>The PCGS "rattler" samples that sell for decent money are the ones with all zero's in the serial number. They often bring in the $50-100 range. >>

He is the 'expert' on sample slabs, and a very nice guy.

The sample you have is a very nice one I have seen them before. But people are concerned with the sample more than the date.
The 1963-D just sold Jul 28, 2012 for $59.00
Now this sample the just sold did have an advertisement on the front Ruffco.
so that could have made it more expensive.
As fare as the quantity made, that no one knows, not even PCGS as they never kept any records of any sample slab produced
In fact, they like all the other grading companies don't even remember what samples they made.
I see them selling from $20.00 TO 50.00.
The first generation rattler with all the 0's can sell from $90.00 to over $150.00
They also have mint and proof coins inside.
You can get deals on them if you look around, I just bought a second generation for $12.00.
But most go for much more. If you take a look at my website I have been building price value guide for all the main TPG
Just go to http://samplecoinslabs.com/index.html/sample-slab-values/
My site is devoted to sample slabs and I write articles on them as well. I have also had three of my articles published by PCGS
I can't remember if that sample is in there it is a very long list, and they have taken me a lot of hours to put the charts all together.
If I were you I would hang onto it for a wile as the harder the become to find, the more they will go up in price.
The sample slab hobby is really growing very fast and people are paying a lot more the they use to.
Hope that helps
Any questions just ask
All the best
