Cross-over submission results.

1817 was in an MS61 NGC holder, but definitely looks more at home in the AU55. I thought it would go 58, but I think it got a few points taken away from a light wipe mark near the bust on the obverse.
Hey, DeiGratia - does that 1816 look familiar?
Finally made it into a PCGS slab as a cross-over.
I'm also pretty happy the 1821 Zacatecas 8R with the legend error crossed. It's a pretty rare variety documented in Calbeto. There's still on-going discussions with regards to 1821 Zacateas without a mouth, but this coin stood the test of 2 TPG's, is properly edged, and has accurate weight and specific gravity of 10.3 (~90% silver). Plus it's documented well as a variety in Calbeto, so it's good enough for me.
1842 Zacatecas Type I didn't cross. Oh. well...
Here are the results and pics:
1. 26117290 ------ 162074 -----1816-Mo JJ ----- 8 R ----------------------------------------------Mexico ----------AU58

Phil apparently uses a much warmer light when shooting these:

2. 26117291 ------ 140179 -----1817-Mo JJ ----- 8 R ----------------------------------------------Mexico ----------AU55
Also Phil's images for CoinFacts:

3. 26117292 ------ 514761 -----1821-Zs RG ----- 8 R ----------------- s After 8 ----------------Mexico ----------AU53

4. 26117293 ------- 514762 ----1842-Zs OM ------ 8 R ---------------- Eagle of 1841 ---------Mexico ----------DNC

First it gets a genuine, then a 58, and finally a 58 crossover.
Good job getting PCGS to finally realize what they should have realized from the start.
That 1821z is epic. I remember swamperbob thinking it was a Boston counterfeit?
Either way, I love it real or counterfeit.

Never! No rest for the wicked
This was the last of my NGC slabbed portrait 8 Reales, though, so hopefully no more cross-over games for a while. Now to focus on building out the sets and hopefully finish either the Carlos IV or one of the Fernando VII sets in the next few years without sacrificing the quality.
DeiGratia - it was meant to be in that holder. Just took longer than expected to get it into it

Can you tell us your thoughts on the one that didn't cross?

<< <i>Nice results ... a 75% crossover rate is much better than the PCGS average crossover rate, that hovers around 40%.

Hi Paul. PCGS must have luster if they are to give an AU grade. The 1842 is bright, but stripped of luster. If I had put down XF45 as min grade, I believe it would have crossed. I believe this coin was dipped out at some point and has re-toned since. Still probably one of the best examples of this die marriage.
