I remember a female diver from one of the Nordic Countries who participated in the 1984 LA Olympics. Her name was Daphne Jong-Jongs (with the J pronounced as a Y). She had a great name and was gorgeous (tall, slender, tanned and with a face that would be on the cover of a bridal magazine).
In the 1976 Olympics in Montreal a hulking mountain of a man from an Eastern Block country (Poland maybe) who was either a shot putter, discus thrower or hammer thrower. His name is an all time classic, "Gird Bonk". I remember Jim McKay commenting on the event and saying the name Gird Bonk multiple times, without hesitation or any hint of him thinking the name was amusing.
