MNS Show Report

I arrived about 9:30 Friday morning and met 6 friends from Springfield IL where I used to live until 2003. We chatted until the 10:00 opening and then separated and hit the floor. I always go thru the dealer list and write down the dealers I want to hit first. Well this show only had one of those J.J. Teaparty. So I head over to their table and Liz had made the trip by herself and didn't bring all their stuff and Dimes were in the stuff NOT brought! AARRGGHH! So I talked to Liz for a short time and headed out to cover the floor. I started at one end and went up and down every row looking at each table that had stuff I look at. I pass by currency, acients, and bullion tables and only stop at tables with U.S. Coins and then look at all there Dimes. I usually write down things I find with table number so I can look at the whole floor before buying. I can only spend so much so I want to get what will help my collection the most. The first dime I found of interest was a 1942-D/D (not on holder) PCGS65FB. This is not one that is in the Registry, but I do collect non PCGS RPM's. I noted this and moved on. Next I found another Merc unmarked variety. A 1943-D/D PCGS65FB. Again this is not a PCGS variety so I noted and moved on. My next find was a real neat find. A 1908-D with a repunched MM. This was in the PCGS set (one of many for this date) and is PCGS63. Bought this coin and moved on. I then found a table that had a nice group of raw Mercs and Roosies, so I looked thru all of them and found 2 to keep. 11 bucks for the pair. Both Roosies. Then I came to a table that had several nice Dimes, but none I needed. But they did have a 1921 and 1921-D in PCGS40 CAC and PCGS45 respectively. They were nice original coins and the 21-P had some pretty toning (to me). I looked at them and moved on because my plan is to have MS coins for these dates. Next I found a 1895-O in PCGSVG10 nice coin but again lower grade than I want to end up with, so I moved on.
Now I moved thru the rest of the floor and found nothing that I needed. So I set out to sell the Bust dime I had brought to sell. Found a dealer right off that offered what I wanted...deal done. Now I had spent the whole day looking at coins and only had $11 woth of Roosies to show for it SO I got to thinking what should I add to my set. The 95-O VG10 was about the same as the 21 and 21-D, so I decided the 21's were a better fit for me now and they would always be easy to sell when I wanted or could upgrade. I went back to the table that had the 21's. He had the price on each and marked "firm". I offered him less for the pair and he said "yes".
I had enough left to go back and pick up the 2 Merc varieties. Did that and by this time it was 5:30 and time to head home.
