1938-1942 Cameo Nickels

Does anybody have access to the on line pop report to look up pop's of the 1938-1942 Jeffereson nickels in cameo???

May have one that has a good shot at cameo. My Jan 2001 shows 0 in all grades all dates, however, one has surfaced (and resurfaced) on teletrade (a 1942-P Type II in 66 DCAM). This is the only one I'm aware of to get the cam or dcam designation.

I would appreciate your help!

Thanks!
James

  • 1942 has one in 66CA and one in 66DC.

No other Jefferson's in 38-42 with a CA or DC designation.

    Keith,

Thanks! NGC has done 1 1940 in 66 Cam, and 2 42 Type 2's, one in 66cam and one in 67cam.

Next piece of info, what are they worth???

I can say that 1942 seems to be the year for them. The Lincolns have more for that year than any other.

  • While the PCGS pop report only lists 1 1942 in cameo - I believe there are two. I almost purchased one at the JAX ANA show a few weeks ago. Another coin was sold at a recent Heritage auction - the last price I recall was $1800. Looking at the Heritage scan I don't think this was the same coin I viewed at the JAX show.

FYI JWCAMEO has one for sale on their web site for $2400.

  • Is yours a '42-P ? I think there are more sliver cameos than nickel. I have two lightly cameod pieces, a '38 and '40. I never thought to try to see if NGC would give them the designation. I have several '50s NGC camoes that wouldn't get CAM from PCGS. I guess I'm a buyer, but it always seems the sellers want more than what I want to spend.

Please send yours in. I'll pay for the grading fees if if it makes cameo I'll buy it from you (at a discount image ) Seriously get it graded and Frank and I can bid for it image Just keep it to this thread before those other nickel guys catch wind of it...

hey, carl----share the wealth and don't be greedy with those nickels!!! there are a couple of 42's, i've seen one each of PCGS and NGC on teletrade recently. on eBay, jwcameo just this week sold a 1939 that had an intense obverse cameo, probably DCAM, but the reverse was brilliant. it was graded PCGS 66 and sold buy-it-nowfor $199 before i could get a bid in. if i knew how to get alink i'd post it cause i think it's saved. you might try his site, segoja. nice stuff!!imageimage
  • Thanks Keets, just saw that site! Thanks to whoever pointed it out here earlier, I bookmarked it. I was thinking up a number to offer for that '42. I won't pay more than $2 grand. Sigh. I would pay way more than $200 for a '39 with a DCAM obverse and brilliant reverse. Also a '41 like that. That '42 in 66 DCAM was on TT twice, but didn't sell either time. First time it started way up there, second time it was over 6 grand if I recall. Then, recently, I learned I was dumb enough to pay way too much estimated tax so if that came back with a lower reserve I would have to think seriously about that one...
