Lance Armstrong Olympics signed photo w/ cert

Hi, to anyone out there reading this sub-forum...

A buddy of mine has a certified, autographed photo of Lance Armstrong from the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, GA. The photo has been framed and kept safe. He is looking to sell, and curious about a starting price and/or reserve price.

1) any thoughts?

2) any interest?

    Hello,

If the autograph is indeed genuine, recent auction prices indicate a rough value of perhaps $120 to $175. I have no further thoughts and no interest myself - this is too recent a signature for me and I don't do sports.

    Best wishes,

    Right on!

I saw a Muhammad Ali signed photo - of him lighting the Olympic torch in Atlanta - sell yesterday on eBay for over $1k (I think it may have been over $1.5k)

    but that's Ali ...

I will tell my friend about the $150-175 estimate.

    every bit helps, thanks!

    Hello again,

Not $150, I said $120 to $175. Value is closer to $120; $175 is a maximum IMHO. Ali on eBay? Well, that venue is worthless. I see two that closed - one BIN at $775 and one at $530 and those values are closer to reality for Ali IMHO. He has been selling for under $500 for some time. The papers they have are unimpressive. The two signed items that sold at that time for $1,500 I would have to see with my own eyes. Seller has 27 negatives and neutrals in the past year as a scam artiste etc.

Right, $120-175. I got it I was just typing on my phone earlier and couldn't reference your post (or recall the exact numbers).

This sold recently for $1.3k: muhammad ali vs sonny liston

Some gloves for $800: boxing gloves

eBay is definitely NOT a gauge of market or value, however, if you're going to sell an Ali autograph you might consider eBay image

This is the Ali photo I was talking about earlier but I must apologize, as you will see, it has not actually sold yet.

  • Hi,

Ebay is really not a good place for values - see here:

I saw the same Ali Liston photo Sell at the start of the year for about $375. The gloves...eh.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Again,

I would suggest pairing this with a related news story and whatever else you can round up - more the merrier!

  • hey seen you stopped in on my thread and asked me to give my opinion. First i would tell you buddy NOT to USE the Auction Route UNLESS he has something VERY RARE when i say rare i mean something that doesnt come up but every few months to a year or more with those types of RARE items you can still get an impressive Bidding war especially with how dead auctions are these days. if its not a RARE item i would suggest he go the BIN route set it at the Highest price he thinks its worth and put a best offer on it with a threashold Price (the lowest he would accept for the item) this allows possibly someone that might agree with him its worth the price hes asking and hit the BIN button and it also gives him the option to review offers sent to him by people who dont think its worth that much but are willing to tell him what they would pay for the item. Im a collector and a dealer (collector first) and I value collectibles alot more then a regular dealer who is not a collector would i even tend to think i value collectibles alot more then a normal collector would so my prices may be Higher then normal but setting the prices high gives me room to negotiate it worked very well for me on ebay before i decieded to leave that site because of how they treated there Real customers (there sellers) Hence i opened my own website. I still get people asking me if i would accept this ammount on this and that item and normally if its not a rare item and i know it comes up for sale at least once or more a month im usually inclined to accept these offers especially if they are not lowball offers to me any usually any other dealer or offers of 25% off or more. hope this info helps your buddy.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your feedback. My buddy Joe received these items from his aunt who worked for CocaCola at the time of the olympic games, so it's purely profit for him from an accounting standpoint.

I think I am in agreement that BIN OBO would do better than auction in this situation. Too many auctions seem to end way less than they should due to lack of traffic. I have passed along all your feedback to Joe and will let you know if/when he sells!

    Hi again,

The current Armstrong doping story is good timing. I saw the number of people buying Jerry Sandusky material and Joe Paterno material go UP, so this might help the sales. It is no time to buy though - this current interest will wear of soon enough. Get it up on the bay now! The most recent auction I monitored has a signed photo of him at $120.

    Best wishes,
    Eric

PS - my post up there - I misspelled "else" as "sole" - it now makes a bit more sense. image
