Does this 1943-D Cent seem a bit unusual?

Found this in an airtight mixed in with a bunch of loose coins. Seems a bit odd to me. I didn't think the steel pennies toned like this.

<< <i>Sure, they tone just like that when you buy toning in a bottle.

i concur :-)
and the only known 1943 D 1c does not have a mint mark position that matches this coin. others could have been struck from different die pair(s) but that starts a long conversation.
i don't have any 1943 D trial, specimen, pattern images for 1943 D (i only have 1943 P for now) if any exist, so I can't comment about that.

Constantine, The photo is pretty darn close to the coins appearance in hand.

Is there anything that indicates the coin may have been plated? Notice the area around the date....looks doubled. Also on the reverse, next to the right stem.....like some plating has came off? To me it seems that if plated the details would have been diminished more than as seen.
