SCP Auctions Shipping

Am I whining? Yes. Sorry.
Bought one card at $240 (with buyers premium), and shipping was $17.50 plus $2.50 for insurance. Did I really just pay them $20 to ship me one card?
I think I'm about to join bubblebathgirl and avoid auction houses.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I realize some items, especially memorabilia are hard to determine, but generally for
any graded card or set, they know the cost of shipping ahead of time to all USA locations.
A $200 card can be shipped in a 400 ct. box with insurance for $5 .
The auction house could charge $8 for that service level and still make
money on the shipping/packaging to pay an employee doing that job.
Bussineau's Sports Rarities always charges a very fair amount. Why can't
other auction houses?

I recently bought 2 cards from SCP auctions in the Dmitri Young sale. These were the first 2 cards I have ever bought from an auction house. The total price of the 2 cards with the juice and the shipping was insane. $60 w/o, $100 with. Unless you are buying something you absolutely need, I too will avoid all houses.
Later, Paul.
