Ughhh... Paypal BS

I sell a card for $78.00 on Ebay.

Guy pays on July 17th.

Tracking shows card was delivered on July 18th (Confirmed Address), close proximity address.

Guy leaves feedback same day "Fast shipping, well packaged, great transaction, thanks!"

Paypal withdraws the money from my account July 27th, and actually send it back to this guys account, putting my account into a negative balance. Reason was Unauthorized Transaction.

Looks to me like I did everything the way I was supposed to. Anyone have any idea as to what's going on here? Kind of scary that without even having a case open Paypal just pulls the money from my account and sends it back to him???

PayPal Steps to Resolve Your Case Steps:
Bank reverses payment and notifies PayPal
PayPal reviews transaction
Payment is completed or reversed
Case closed
Step 3 - Payment is completed or reversed Based on the results of the investigation, PayPal will determine an appropriate outcome. In some cases, a seller may not be held liable for the reversal amount.

You shouldn't be held liable, especially with the tracking and positive feedback as evidence... I'd be on the phone with Paypal ASAP to plead your case... I'm sure they'll credit back your account... you do have "seller" protection with Paypal as well.

Could it be he paid with a stolen cc? I am not really sure but I like to read these threads to stay up to date with all the dif scammers out there.

Good luck I don't think you will have any problem getting your money back.

I emailed the buyer asking (in a nice way) what gives. He didn't respond. You would think that since he knows the tracking number shows delivered and he left me positive feedback it would be an uphill battle to get his money back.

I'm assuming at this point he paid through his bank account and didn't have the funds to clear the payment... so they took it from Paypal who took it from me, and they will probably give it back to me now that I've proven he received it.

Maybe he thinks he can get his money back and keep the card by telling the bank he didn't approve the charges and figures he's only going to burn Paypal in the end as it's doubtful the bank and Paypal will argue over a $78 charge? ...and he figured I would be covered by seller protection?

I guess he could claim a bunch of unauthorized transactions or stolen card but they were shipped to his confirmed address?

Right now Paypal just has a message stating they will update me at some point in the future.

I added three notes into the claim a few days ago, 1) a note stating the delivery address was the buyers confirmed address, 2) that the buyer left me positive feedback, 3) that the DC shows it was delivered. Paypal didn't change anything in the case and it still stated they will update it shortly.

Tired of waiting (I actually thought it would be cleared up automatically by now) I decided to call Paypal. I got a access code from logging into my account and then called Paypal. The rep confirmed it was delivered, also noted that the buyer left positive feedback and he reversed the debit to my account. It was relatively easy and the rep was really good (he was north american for those curious).

I'm really not very happy that Paypal would deduct the funds from my account in the first place (even as a automated process), especially since all the information I provided them with to resolve it they already had access to. It also makes me wonder if I didn't have the tracking number if they would have done anything. Still frustrating to follow their rules, have money taken out of your account, and then have to have yourself initiate resolution by proving 100% compliance (which again was info they already had).
  • Paypal is a dirty company.
  • I had this happen once before and currently have the same issue with a different buyer. Basically the buyer is saying it was unauthorized. He may have reported it to cc company. Paypal takes the money out because of the possible charge back but then they work to resolve. With the info you provided you should be fine, you just have to wait out the process.

If there is an unauthorized transaction on the buyers side, why on earth would the sellers funds be withheld? I don't see what the seller has to do with that - ridiculous. Glad it worked out for you, OP.

Paypal sux.......... they can hold your money hostage anytime they like. I encountered similar scenario several years ago, yeah, it got resolved, but it really chapped my a$$ the way they did me (seller). I think the only way to prevent this kind of thing from happening is to not have any funds available in your paypal account or in your account tied to paypal.

Okay, so Paypal just reversed it AGAIN, taking the $80 out of my account AGAIN... after it was supposed to have been resolved.

I called them and the Paypal reps response was that it is very odd and they will look into it. He said all the seller protection requirements were met. And I provided more than enough evidence.

To top it off this clown buyer who never responded to my question asking what was up REGISTERED the card in the PSA SET REGISTRY!

1991 Impel X-Force Promo's Deadpool PSA 10, thanks buddy, maybe I should post his info here if he's into ripping off other Set Registry members, would PSA do anything about this?.. I mean I have proof that he was refunded and thus never bought the card.
