TPG's and Grading the San Fran 75th ASE's?

drei3reedrei3ree Posts: 3,430 ✭✭✭✭
If anyone has the "official" scoop on how these sets are to be handled, please advise... I have a few questions:

Can they be opened? How will that change when the C&C Sets ship?

Is bulk submission (15 sets at PCGS) only good for the Mercanti label?

What is the PCGS number on these in 1st Strike?

Thanks

I'll answer the last question. Go to coin number lookup for the ASE Bullion. The coin numbers are listed there.

I found the 2012-S proof dcam, 1st Strike: 513094. However, they show numbers for type 1 and type 2??? They only gave a number for 2012-S Reverse Proof Type2: 513096???

You lost me. 94 and 96 are the set first strikes. The others are for non fs. Disclaimer: It's early and maybe I'm asleepimage

The easiest thing to do is to call PCGS customer service.
    Or email them.

Your answer could be mere seconds/minutes away by doing so.

PCGS has created special label options for the 75th Anniversary coins.

It is all described here - 75th Anniversary Sets

I called customer service previously and got the numbers for first strike:
    Proof = 513093
    Reverse Proof = 513095

Mercanti Signature label only on bulk orders

According to the coin number lookup, 513093 is not first strike, I could still be asleep as I just had lunch but I'd double triple check...image

Correct; 94 is the first strike for the proof and 95 is the RP, but not first strike and also lists it as "Type 2."

Thanks for the information Don. My concern is the Coin & Currency Set, which contains the same proof ASE, will start shipping before the 30-day window closes on the 75th Set.

EDIT: Okay, I'm making an assumption.

The Mint is releasing these in two parts 60 days apart according to the ship dates I have seen One in July and One in the end of September. Will PCGS honor "First Strike" for both released dates if second batch is sent to them unopened?

Given past precedence, I would believe that PCGS will only honor 1st strike for those received by PCGS post the 30 day window IFF the postmark states it was originally shipped from the USMint within the first 30 days.
So, given your qualifications above, I would believe the answer to be "no" to 1st strike. They would still do the "75th annv" label though, if received unopened.
