Do you load up your "MyTrackedLots" list....

....and return later to methodically delete coins that don't meet your requirements?

or do start by dissecting the coin first and then begin to track.

If a coin is on your watch list, are you serious about it, or sometimes just riding along to watch?

I ask this....because when you pull up a coin it tells you how many people are tracking. It can give you an indication of how much interest there is in a particular coin.

I would think it is good to know how much "real" interest is in a given serious at the particular grade if you are assembling a set. I guess I'm just trying to get an idea of what percentage of a tracker count is really potential bidders.

I tend to start tracking quite a few coins at first that peak my interest or are dates that I need for my set. As the auction starts to get closer, I start weeding out coins that don't meet my standards or after carefully reviewing other coins for comparison purposes. In the end, usually leaving only about 10% of my original Tracked Lots.

Curious how others use the "MyTrackedLots" feature.......

You did not mention which auction. Sound like TT?
I know, on eBay there is a way to hide tracked lots
that just get in the way after awhile.

On TT, Heritage, Stacks, I usually go through the list fast and fill up my tracking list like you, only to go back at a later time and pick out the ones I prefer. On ebay, I only track items to get an idea of what they are selling for on that site.

Heritage also has the "want list" data that tells
how many are after a certain coin. If you ever
bother to use the " my collection" feature, this
info. is shown beside each of your coins.

Probably 90% or even more of the coins on my watch list are just out of curiosity to see what the final bid amount is and/or to toss in a lowball bid shortly before it ends.

I am kind of glad Ebay limits it to just 200, or I'd be on their site all day looking for deals...

I've seen the "want list" feature, but have never used it. Might have to check that out.

  • As soon as the auction is open for online bidding, I place a small bid on all the coins that might interest me. Then, over the course of a couple weeks prior to the auction, I slowly filter down to one or two pieces I am going to vigorously pursue at the live auction.

Yes, very much so, because I am super interested in current market price trends and I study them, when the auction is over with. Bid or no bid.

    Yes,

go thru the intitial catalog first, mark all (track )the ones that intrest me, then go back an research prior appearances, prices realized, populations, and view, an review the video descriptions if available and so forth. Then mark off all but the ones I am serious about. if not able to view the coin myself, I go an find someone too view it for me i trust. The mark off again. Then I will usually token bid if possible, but usually by then the bids are getting high, so I sometimes cant. Then depending on budget wait to bid on live auction on the lots I plan to pursue. its nice when they go in the order that intrests me , but that is not usually the case. One thing in the upcoming heritage sale, two of the three coins I had the most intrest in have extremely high reserves. based on research, one of the coins had an example sell earlier this year for about 2k less than the reserve is set on this one, and I liked it better. so I am passing, the next coin the reserve is high as well, but am passing on it becuase I already have a coin of that type in my collection, not as high grade, but actually scarcer date. One lot is left that I am very seriously pursuing.

Now with stacks, its a different course of events, becuase I am attending the live auction, any thing in that catalog I am intrested in , I am waiting to view the lots in person to eliminate, then pursue , and bid live in the auction room. For this sale, i wont even place a token bid on line at all.

Yes, for a variety of reasons that range from, curious to see if it sells to I'll cull out what I don't really like on the second look.

I go through the upcoming items on my wantlist --- often. I track anything of interest. Later I go through each tracked item and eliminate from tracking anything that is a definite NO BID for me. As the bids start showing, I stop tracking those lots that I know I will not bid on. I normally place my bids well before the end of internet bidding.

I do pay attention to how many people are tracking a given item. Often, when there are many trackers, I take a hard look at the item thinking I must have missed something.

I watch many different error coins for many different reasons.

Some I may want to buy.

Others I like to keep current on pricing, so I track many different types of errors to keep up with the trends.

I watch way more coin then I end up buying.
