Help with 78T cello w/Brett back

Hello all, hoping to get some advice...
I just received my packs from the most recent group rip and inside discovered, to my delight, a '78 Topps cello pack with Georgie Boy on the back.

Pics (Sorry no scanner!)

Anyway, I am exclusively a ripper, and have only in the last couple of years been hesitating to open packs with stars on t/b solely because of this forum. So not having much knowledge with the way packs are graded, how much graded packs are worth, etc, I'm basically wondering if I should submit this pack. (Only 1 has been PSA graded before- it received an 8)
Now I'm mostly not an idiot and if George was looking at me I would submit without a second thought because it's so much cooler to be able to admire the front. So should this particular combination of year and player be a near auto-sub within reason?

The other issue I've got is the condition of the pack. To me everything looks mostly good (good seal, nice tight brick, etc) except one thing: one of the back corners of the Brett (and a couple of cards behind him) kind of ducktail back. Try to show you on a pic:

I'm just not sure how this will affect the grade. So I know it's hard to tell from pics, but what do you say, rip or submit? Thanks very much in advance!

I imagine the condition of the brett, and how tight that pack appears, keeps it from being slabbed, and being profitable. As long as that strange tuck doesn't hurt the grade, no clue there, you are likely set to make a couple dollars if graded, so money-wise, you should not rip.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

I would submit it for grading as Brett has a very strong following even a pack with him on back. I've seen that issue you described before and don't believe it will impact the grade. As long as the seal is tight which it appears to be in the picture, I think that pack gets an 8. Just make sure there are no splits along any of the edges as you will get no better than a 5 if that happened. If it did have a split, then I would rip away.

I personally would keep it unopened no matter what, but that's me. image

Thanks for the input, guys, it's being subbed!

And Mike, was hoping you chimed in, knowing your unhealthy unopened tendencies image Thanks!

I would open it, if that was your original intention. A 4th yr card on back isn't going to generate that much value for you above a non-star '78 pack. I occasional sub these packs if the star is showing. I thought Dave's sideburns were cool in '79 so sent this one in

Pulled this from a 78 cello with Brett on top from a full box a few years back:

So what does it cost to have a cello graded? I have accumlated several cellos and racks I want to grade. I'm kind of itching to break open a couple of Steve Hart cello boxes as well.

Well per pack can be between $12 and $14 but then you have to add on the shipping both ways so I usually send in submissions of 20 or more packs to make it worthwhile. And of course racks can't be submitted to PSA so those are always harder to know what to do with.
