Have you ever.....

bought a card that was graded an 8 because it had better eye apeal than a card that was graded a 9?

I try not to get caught up in the registry being a drug thing. As I was looking at a few cards tonight on ebay I noticed that there was two cards that were graded an 8 that looked better then the 9's the same seller had. Also the price was way better as I got both 8's for less than one 9.

Bet you can't guess who I bought the cards from image

No I have not. I have at times hung on to a particularly nice card if it is graded lower than the one I have in my set. It's almost impossible to resist the whole "registry is a drug" thing, when you are in the top 5.

When selling, no matter how nice your 8 or 8.5 is it is not going to sell for anywhere close to 9 money.

The only way I would ever buy a card graded below something I had was if I was reasonably sure I could get it to "bump".

Hard to do without having card in hand.

I have 3 awesome KIllebrew 8's and an 8.5 if you're interested. WAY lower than 9 prices!

Happens frequently with my T202's and M116's - nicest card goes in my collection regardless of grade and company (PSA/SGC)

I once bought a Mars attacks #1 PSA 5 after buying a 6 because the 5 had better eye appeal. I used the 6 for my set standing for a while
then later sold it off. I've also had a 65 Topps baseball in 7 that made the 8 look like a dog when shown side by side.

    Good for you.
