'57-D Franklin......Die Break......and Doubled 5?

Went through some Franklin Rolls. Nothing interesting other than this '57

Nice little die break on top of the R, and what appears to be a doubled 5.

Any thoughts?

Great looking closeup shots. My guess is the doubling and die break are more interesting than valuable but nice find !

That's a nice high grade example of
a die chip on the 57-D (and 58-D)
    Franklin.

It's more accurately called a die chip
    instead of a die break.....

    sweet lil find
    kool die chip

looks like a doubled die to me on note of the 5 in the date too...a discovery piece?

Looks very much like a doubled 5. Underlying 5 directly south.

I've seen the shoulder die chip before and they are neat to find. I wish there
was added value but it seems the Franklin collectors don't see it my way!

Actually it could have some extra value if it is a certain die pair.

There are at least 2 die pairs of 57-D that show this die chip.

One of them is Stage C of RPM #1, which is a Cherrypickers Guide Variety and PCGS will designate those and they do sell for a modest premium.

    See here.

    georgiacop50,

    Thanks for posting the link.

I pulled back out my roll of 57's and all 20 are die break coins. Unfortunately, none appear to be the RPM variety.

However, it looks like I have some of the "R" Break Die 3 variety and what might be 2 new discoveries. The coin that I posted has a much larger break than those shown and no other diagnostics match. I have a few of these. Also another with a smaller die break.

Looks like I'll be making contact with Brett and sending a few coins off to be examined.
