American Gold Eagles Needs 1999W(Error)in Reg-Set

Gold Eagle MS Registery Set Needs The 1999W included(We Did It For Sacagawea's)

The Unc 1999W $5 & $$10 Gold Eagle is like the 1995W(Silver) Proof, in that it is the only MS-AGE to have a "W" mint mark. A,,very ,very few could have been made before ether Die wore out or mistake was corrected. This "W" mint mark UNC American Gold Eagle should be included in Set-Reg or be included as Error(optional)because it was struck with unfinished proof die........

  • Gary,

While some folks may think comparing the 95-W SAE and the 99-W MS Gold Eagles is like comparing oranges and apples. I do think that it is an EXCELLENT idea have the 99-W $5 and 99-W $10 included in the registry sets as optional coins if nothing else. I haven't seen anything yet about weighting the Gold American Eagles sets but PCGS could add these two coins without to much problem I think? I have spoken to several other Gold Eagle collectors that would enjoy seeing these two coins added to the sets as well. Maybe there is someone at PCGS we can suggest this to? Im all for it.

  • Although I did just finish the $10 MS GAE set myself, I would also welcome seeing this addition... even if it is listed as an optional coin.

It is an excellent idea to include the $5 1999W & $10 1999W in the MS SET REGISTRY.

I think PCGS should include every coin from a series that they certify in the Registry Sets, most as only optional. If they have a PCGS number for these Gold Eagles, then they should be a part of the set (but only optional, as not everyone who collects the set is interested in varieties).

  • I think the 1999-W error $5 and $10 gold eagles should definitely be included in the registry sets, even if they are optional. These coins have the potential of being very rare as soon as we can find out just how many were minted. I'm still looking for the $10 at a reasonable price.image
  • Okay,
I am being told that the Gold Eagles will be weighted next week and the proposal to have two 99-W coins has been given to David to consider adding. That was fast! Lets see what happens.image

  • I agree! The '99-W error is a large enough population that most collectors wouldn't feel their set was complete with it. I say make it a required coin!
