WAY OT Need help please!

I am a complete moron when it comes to computers, is there any way I can defrag my laptop? It is running super slow and I think it needs to be cleared of cookies ect.. I had a download awhile back but lost it ad everything I google comes up with fees for downloads, if there is something I can do myself without buying anything I would very much appreaciate it.

    You probably have the Trojan that's been going around.

    Go to http://download.cnet.com/windows/ and download SpyBot, AVG Anti-Virus and Ad-Aware if you don't already have them. If your computer won't allow you to install the programs, you will need to restart your computer in Safe Mode to install them.

    btw, your System Tools has a defrag program

    I thought a trojan was to keep you from getting infected (at least 99% of the time).

    Windows 7 has a great feature built in: system restore, don't worry you will not lose files that you have either updated or created since the restore point. Try to pinpoint about when you started having problems and pick a restore point a week or so before then.

    It's generally under the accessories tab, system tools, then system restore.

    I use this free program to clean my computer of cookies and other internet junk.

    CCleaner

    I also use this program to get rid of malware and such

    Spybot - Search and Destroy

    YW Perk just keep in mind if your browser keeps redirecting you to pay adds you are still infected and eventually will need to either try a system restore or run the software recommended by llafoe or Aric.

    i used to use ad=aware program to get that stuff out but comcast has free norton that takes care of it for you if you are with them
