Anyone here win this 1971 Football box?

ebay link

Looks like they were opened and put right back in the boxes. It would be interesting to find out if the stars and rookies were still in there, as the seller has a similar 1971 baseball lot available in which you can see many stars.

Well if they rookies were pulled in 1971 the Bradshaw is gone for sure but the Wehrli and Mean Joe, Lanier and Sanders are most likely in there since no one collected defense and they were not worth much either. All the $$$ was in offensive players. I am guessing Ken Houston would be there too.

    Starr - Gone
    Bradshaw - Gone
    Namath - Gone
  • how about this "unsearched" lot of Baseball 71's? risky at that price, no?

Well, for me these words used by the seller of that '71 Baseball Lot is an automatic red flag alert:

    << <i>MY LOSS IS YOUR GAIN >>

9 times out of 10, this actually means YOUR loss is HIS gain.

that is the other lot I was referring to by the same seller. You can see there is a Ryan and a nice looking Aaron in the lot...which is what makes me think the stars and rookies might have still been in the football lot as well.

Even if the stars were pulled (I would assume so), some of the commons for some bucks in PSA 9 form. About 3% of the set (1,165 out of 33,346) have been graded a 9, and there only 28 are tens. Yes there is plenty of risk, but I think the reward is worth it.

AS for the 71 Baseball lot, I see a Hank Aaron, Greg Luzinski, a nicely centered, tough Bob Locker, and many others. You'd get some nice 8s for sure, and maybe even some 9s. Risk yes, but I'd say it's worth it.

He sure could have done a better job of marketing. Plus, I'd be worried about shipping----is he going to just leave them loose in the box?

that 71 football box was a good buy , someone is going to make out real well. The display box and inner boxes are worth more than 1/2 what the whole lot sold for.

the 71 baseball, I don't know based on how the cards are jsut thrown around with no protection.
  • Over 900 bucks - with no assurAnce on the packing. Tough one and for what it's worth you didn't get a clear view of the Aaron. Tough to expect ten or so 9's in that lot IMo.
  • I was watching those auctions and my snipes were nowhere near the final price. I agree - those baseball cards scared me since they were just in a pile like a craigslist 1994 donruss find. I wanted to go there and put them in sleeves.

Most of the '71 baseball with close up views had corner touches. I highly doubt there are any 9s to be had in there. I'd venture to guess most of them are in the PSA 6/7 range with a smaller percentage of 8s.
  • it was breaking my heart to see those cards laying there like that - i actually emailed the seller and sent him the PSA sub for shipping guidelines - penny sleaves and CS1's are your friend seller - else you 900 bidder is gonna come looking for you.

He listed another box of football and it looks like someone got to him right away to end the auction. I bet he left a lot of money on the table vs. letting the second auction run.
