I recently got an upgrade for my ESC 1640 pattern Sixpence by Louis Pingo(the engraver). After completion of all the regular issue coins Louis was given authorization to strike 168 proof sets consisting of the Guinea, Half Guinea, Shilling and Sixpence. These differ from the regular issue primarily in the border of dots on each side. A few marks on the plastic, but I have to get it reslabbed anyway since they got the type wrong. These are the sellers pics.
Louis Pengo (1743-1830) - his earliest known medal is of Richard Mead in 1754 (when he was 11 years old). In 1776 he succeeded his father (Thomas) as Assistant Engraver at the Royal Mint, and became Chief Engraver on the death of Richard Yeo in 1779.

I guess it wasn't inexpensive in an absolute sort of way, but I would have paid more. With both the daughters out of college and one wedding out of the way it seemed really cheap in comparison. It's the 3rd one graded at NGC including the PF55 I had graded and another in 65. Of about a dozen of them I have seen in hand over the years this one seems the nicest to me but I do tend to like the darker/richer toning more than many people do.
I bet if I dipped it out to be nice and shiney it would sell for a lot more.

Don't even joke about that! Nice look to that one, love that bust design.

Better get a Dremel with a wire brush attachment so you can whiz it too, while you're at it.
