Sad but true. For what it's worth, I too was fooled once by a Chinese fake. It was actually a Chinese pattern coin (a Chinese fake of a Chinese pattern).
In the end, turns out, it was magnetic! The one thing I never thought to check for ... magnetism.
Good news is I only paid $2 for the coin. Bad news is I sent it to PCGS before realizing it was fake (thought it was an authentic pattern worth over $4,000).
