1854 Seated Quarter, Thin Date

1854 Seated Quarter, Thin Date
Can anyone tell me the diagnostics for the 1854 Thin Date?
I found the following on an older thread but there were no pictures:

There are 4 obverses for 1854 Philadelphia strikes. Obverse 1 is the thin date variety, and the date numerals are virtually even on the horizontal plane. Obverse 3 is the only other obverse with even date (as opposed to slight downward slop left to right), however on obverse 3, a small spur extends down from the left case of the 1. Also on obverse 1 (thin date), the top of the ball of the base of the 5 is noticeably distant from the bottom point of the vertical upright. On obverse 2,3,4 that gap will be very narrow, almost closed.

On my coin, posted below. You can plainly see a gap between the top of the ball of the 5 and the bottom of the vertical upright, but the date does not look "even on the horizontal plane"

Does anyone have any experience with this variety and can you explain which obverse I have and maybe show a picture of a thin date if mine is not one?

I actively collect, buy and sell US minted Philippine coins from 1903-1945. I am interested in anything during this period, Albums, Proof sets, collections, original rolls and bags, Cullion Leper colony coins etc.
Also a big fan of liberty seated coins.

Rich Uhrich has two currently for sale if you want to compare.

I just did but cannot determine if it's obverse 1 or 3. The serif of your 1 does not look 'very pointed'. Also, on the reverse 'the lowest horizontal line does not appear to extend into the feather of the eagles's left wing'. Can you verify this?

Rich does post here so he may chime in to help you.

Unfortunately I cannot as I am in Afghanistan right now, so I will not even see the coin in hand for a few more months. Thanks for the heads up about the two posted though!

After looking on Rich Uhrichs site, I do not think my coin is a thin date. The two posted on his site have noticeably thinner "1"s. I also did not realize they carried that much of a premium...

    Good thread!

For the 1854 Thin Date quarter, of course, the date is a diagnostic. Also, the denticles on both sides are quite large.
And, the lowest horizontal line of the shield extends into the eagle's left (facing) wing.

It's not the easiest variety to confirm. The values are high because of the rarity of the variety, and the fact that it might take a long time to sell.

Thanks for the additional diagnostics, I will update this tread when I cherrypick one image

1854 Seated on Ebay, possible Thin date

I think I might have found one, but I cannot confirm with the given pictures. Any opinions?
