1986 Panini Supersport PSA 9 Mint Mike Tyson on EBAY......

PSA 9 Mike Tyson Rookie

It has been quite a while since a graded mint example was being offered on EBAY. This is the first one to hit the pop report in quite some time.

I have to think that this card is on a lot of collectors want lists and should do quite well.

Good luck if anyone is going to go after it.

The raw Tyson rookie that's listed right now, is doing well, as well. Over $170 at the moment.

The Tyson rookie is just like the 1982 Wrestling All Stars Hulk Hogan.

You don't have to be a hardcore boxing card collector to want one and it may be the only boxing card a bidder even bids on.

That raw tyson price is impressive, especially with at least one soft corner and blurry scan. there's also a PSA 8 Holyfield already at $100 with 5 days left. Strong times for boxing!

I still continue to believe the Tyson card is undervalued when you consider how few there are in strong condition and with how popular he is.

He has been such a huge draw on the autograph circuit the past year and there is only one rookie card the 1986 Panini. If even just a few of those autograph seekers want an example the price is going to climb.

The other major catalyst is that the boxing card genre continues to add new collectors and this is such an awesome card with such a great action shot of Tyson and with a very vintage design.

I am not certain how much impact the new registry will have on this card but it certainly can not hurt. I think there will certainly be collectors that will need an example but I think the primary driver for this card is going to be Tyson specific demand.

Back when these were in the $80 range I posted on the board that my target price was $250 or more for a nice raw copy and I think that number will eventually be eclipsed.

The PSA 9 should be a $500+ card and I think there is a good chance this one will get there.

great point about the auto and Tyson-specific demand dpeck - i wonder if within a few years there will be fewer unsigned than signed RCs in existence. Still only 15 that have been graded....

That PSA 9 should hit $500 no problem too. Did you have one of the 10s out there? I know RAS has the other..

I do not have any 10's. I have five PSA 9's, and three PSA 8's. One of my PSA 8's is the UK version. I also have six raw copies but none are super strong or they would have been graded already.

There is a board member Miconelegacy (Mike) who has a 10, a few other high grade PSA examples and I believe a box or two of them sealed from the seller in Cyprus.

Question on that raw Tyson. Somebody said it had a soft corner and I was looking at the photot and I wondered how you could tell? Seemed sharp. Just curious thinking how that one would grade.

agree that it's tough to tell from the (intentionally?) blurry pic, but both bottom corners seemed like they might be a bit touched - especially the lower left corner when seen with the back scan. I could be wrong, but his pics for all of his other auctions are much sharper...I'd guess it's 7.5/8 material, but would be interesting if someone here won it to see how it looks in hand...

The lower right hand corner looks touched to me. If it is the grade will be somewhere between EX-MT to NM.

Most do not realize how tough these are to get in a Mint grade.

The last one I sold was to miklia and it was a blazer with the slightest touched corner on the back and it was NM. I bought it as a mint example and did so becuase I had purchased all of my other strong examples from that seller and they graded well.

Trust me from the photo you would have thought a PSA 9 easily and perhaps a Gem Mint example.

    This card is ending tonight.

Should be interesting to watch for sure.

I just saw the scan at the bottom and this is a UK version that is in an Italian holder.

The Italian version has an Italian back and this one is English. It should be noted that the UK version has a completely different description as well.

What's the better card, the U.K. version or the Italian version?

I don't know. There are not a large number of these graded and quite frankly most are mislabeled.

Very good eye, Dpeck. Thanks for the note!

    The final hammer was $539.

A very strong price and great news for Tyson collectors. Miconlegacy if you are reading this you have to be smiling! image

FYI Dpeck -- I'm the guy that bought that raw Panini Tyson rookie. I was at the National and had about 50 cards graded including that Tyson and it came back a 9. I had several boxing cards graded, including that one. (And my Mayweather Browns 1997 rookie came back a 10!).

Sounds like you did very well!!!

I just re read my post and the photo won!! LOL Nice eye and great score!

I'm going to start another thread with what I had graded. Some very strong stuff other than my 48 Leaf. A 1967 Joe Louis raw Panini I bought on ebay a few weeks ago for less than $20 came back a 9.
