Very, very cool. Is it struck through a shifted die cap or what?

    The label isn't specific enough......

It was struck once through the detached bottom of a late-stage die cap that shifted south before the strike. Judging from the multiple impressions of LIBERTY, the cap bottom was subjected to numerous shift-and-strike events before the final strike that generated this coin.

    Mornin' -

    As mentioned above, Mike D.
got it right - a Detached bottom
layer from a Die Cap, etc.........

    It's different from a 'sandwhich'
job in that the incused letters
    read correct, not backward, if
    it were 'pressed'......

    Mike's description, as usual, is
    detailed and right-on.............
