When I sold on ebay I used to put a reject the offer automatically at a certain price. Never had a problem with nasty emails from the people declined. I also never put outrageous bin prices either.
I have used Best Offer on both ends of a deal but not a fan because I think it sends a mixed message, either I'll take less so my BIN is too high or I don't know what it's worth but afraid to auction and let the market decide.
It's proper etiquette to make a low ball offer with the words, "pretty please" attached. It doesn't usually help, but it let's the seller know you really want it.
It works both ways. There are many strong offers out there, too. I've offered full PCGS retail + to one dealer on several occasions but gotten nothing out of it. The guy doesn't care what the slab grade says and I don't begrudge him....instead I just keep trying.
The low ball offers used to bother but not anymore. I believe a lot of them were dealers fishing for desperate sellers or people who were simply out of it.
Now if I have anything as BIN / make offer I have the computer automatically reject it if offer below price I would let it go at. On other material what I really detest is some chap a who wants to buy a $50 coin for $40. I guess these guy would try to haggle at walmart. I simply tell them the item is priced at my rock bottom price otherwise it would have bin / make offer.
If you want to avoid the frustration of low-ball offers there's a SIMPLE SOLUTION ...
Check the box that says "automatically decline offers below ____"
Then you are free to go about your business unaware of all the idiots on eBay who think you might actually be desperate enough to sell your $250 coin for $100.
Theres no need to get upset over a low offer, just ignore it.For the first time recently,I submitted an offer on e bay,for about 10% below the asking price. It was rejected and I upped my offer to 5% below asking price which was accepted.
I don't know why anyone would deliberately make an effort to annoy someone who's priced something at a level the prospective "buyer" finds unrealistic. Takes all kinds, I suppose.

The only offers I've ever made are to Blue Moon Coins for what the items are actually worth - and usually about 30% of their BIN price.

They are accepted about 5% of the time.
