T206 No Name on Front Variation. Looking for information

Went to small local card show today and dealer just picked up a large lot of T206 cards. I have never come across one with the entire name missing. Does anybody have any info on this card? I did not purchase the card but told the dealer I would take pic and post message and get back with him.

Thanks

Brian

Looks like there's a hint of erasure there. Especially considering the lettering ink color is in the image.

    Brian,

You should PM Brian (41GoudeyGuy) with your question. He is only 16 cards short from completing the set.

Thanks for the advice. I will PM 41Goudeyguy and Post message in Net54.

Could be erasure, but based on the story not likely. This card was inherited along with 200 other T206 cards from someones grandfather and the dealer said he purchased direct from the grandchildren.

    Appreciate the feedback

Not a T206 expert by any means, but I thought the same thing when I first saw the scan. It looks like the area where the name should be is noticabley cleaner than the rest of the white borders which is probably the result of erasure.

Piedmont. I looked through all of his T206 cards and none of the backs were uncommon

Not easy to erase the caption from a T206 card. Dont look erased to me, you would still see some of the caption or far more scuffing in the area where "Barger, Rockester" was removed

Id say this Cy Barger was printed this way, the face is a bit different with the light part of the neck and below nose much lighter than normal (like its missing the brown ink, the same as the caption), but hard to tell.

Hold the card at an angle and you can tell if the caption was removed as the gloss and natural surface patina would also be altered in only that area.

If it is truly missing the brown ink, its Not a true variation, its a non-manmade printing error, not uncommon for this set.
