Coin YOU enjoy although the sophisticated Collector thinks is Junk

I rarely get offended when others think what I collect is junk. (Sometimes I do, but it's rare. Not 1969-S Doubled Die 'rare', but more like 09-S VDB 'rare'.)
Here's one that arrived today. Kind of like the crusty color.
Please, do you have hidden somewhere your "guilty pleasure" coin(s) that you kind of dig although you know it is beneath the more advanced numismatists?
If so, share!
(If not, I totally understand.)

<< <i>Did it look that way when it was slabbed or did it later turn within the slab? Interesting coin in any event. >>
No, the low grade tells me it was already toned when submitted.
Couple that with I think collectors place too much on coins turning in the holder. I think that phenomenon occurs much less than commonly believed.

<< <i>It is pretty rare but it is also pretty rare that people collect coins this far gone.

<< <i>"sophisticated collectors" ?? don't worry, not too many of those around here ..
Sure there are!
Just pull up many modern threads and/or toned threads and/or Daniel Carr threads... plenty of sophisticated collectors reminding us how and where to focus our collecting objectives. They have more information in their pinkie than I do in my whole brain.

If so (and considering the other coins pictured so far in this thread), perhaps you should change your title to the "insufficiently sophisticated collector."
Check out the Southern Gold Society
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

I suppose I meant that we're all just coin geeks at heart regardless of our various collections.
Modern coins that we should be spending but aren't.
In fact, its quite nice.

You know, I agree.
That would look attractive as the reverse of a silver Eagle.

Imagine how good it would look if they left out the horizon and the mustang logo.
<< <i>
Bet, it's really rare to fine 'em with the "large revesrse".!!
I don't care, I'm proud as heck to have it!
<< <i>Actually, unless I'm totally out of it (which happens a lot), isn't it rather unusual to have a toned Silver Eagle in a PCGS slab these days? >>
I've been noticing some more toned ASE TrueViews which is promising. Some of the toned ASEs have very nice colors. They are kind of the new Morgan for me - big, silver and toned.
<< <i>Not sure where this fits into this thread.....some sophisticated collectors would appreciate it for what it is, others would not - like my collector friend that was over a few weeks ago looking at my large cents, and said 'this is piece of junk', THEN saw my purchase price on the reverse, and just started laughing at me.....which is better than what my wife did when I brought it home

just play by prison rules. slide that sucker down in your sock before you get home and no one is the wiser

My favorite coins tend to be ones whose rarity as a class just isn't appreciated. Thinks like
Indonesian coins in Gem or Fijian 1970's and '80's circulation issues in Gem. Most will value
the ones that are already worth lots of money but they just get lost in a safety deposit box.
A Gem Fijian 1984 50c from a mint set can just be spectacular. It's a wonderful design and
some of these look like matte proofs. There are just so many that are "rare" yet go unnoticed.
From Libya to New Caledonia there are cheap coins that I've yet to locate.
The biggest thrill is always finding a really choice '82-P quarter or a nice clad variety. There
are rare coins everywhere you look; they're the ones you never see. But you have to grab
them when they do show up.
nice lil story follows this
not too well received but i love it
i had segs slab it to compliment my jnfsc award wining design set...enjoy if you do i say
