Got back today to the field I've been hitting lately. Started off very very very slow and ended pretty good . It was very hot but gotta get in detecting when possible.
Within 20 minutes or so an odd signal appeared. After digging a bit out comes a piece of a pocket knife. Wipe it down and see it's a little shiny... could it be silver? Well, sort of. There is a sterling stamp, but it must be a very thin sheet. Talk about a heart breaker, but it's still pretty neat. Maybe it would be worth to try some electrolysis?
Just a couple wheats for the next couple hours. Then a tombac button comes up. Now we're talking!
As the hunt neared its end the e-trac signaled a deeper coin - sounded like a dime. After digging down quite a bit out pops my third silver canadian quarter of the year and the 2nd from this place! Until this year I've never found a silver canadian quarter. It's soaking in oil now 'cause the dirt was stuck on pretty tight, so no after pics just yet. Date is 1872! Last one was 1888. So getting older. Took a video of the quarter - not too exciting, but at least you can see the obverse: Video Here
A few minutes later, a foil/gold signal came up. Right near the surface is a jumbled mess of chain - with little charms. It was apparent that the charms were plated at best, but still had a little hope for the chain. After getting home it took over an hour to get it untangled as the chains (yes chains) were so small. What it looks like is somehow two chains got lost and mixed together. This person was wearing a fake chain which had the charms, and a thin 14k chain as well. Well, actually the 14k chain had a couple charms as well, but took them off. She weighs .6 grams (about $18 worth), but still gold #2 for the year! Strange that the chain isn't broken and was actually still clasped shut when found.
HH all!!
Alright, she's soaked enough, not too bad. Pretty worn, so lost probably in the late 1800s/early 1900s?

WTG on the button- that's an oldie.
Silver is always nice too, of course.
