It's the 15th of every month. You have one picked out already?
  • bronzematbronzemat Posts: 2,663 ✭✭✭✭✭
They didnt do it last month on the 15th, I hope they do it this month though.

Seeing that the 15th is on a Sunday, they won't do it that day. I would look for it later today or on Monday. Or you can PM carolJ and or SportsModerator1 and ask what day it'll be this month.

Thank you. I do use Photoshop. Usually start with a large-size image of a coin from archives, pick the design element I want to retain and remove the rest of the background. The output images is saved with background transparancy so it works nicely with any forum color scheme.

By the way, if you have a favorite coin or design - let me know. I can use your images to create an icon. My current icon is part of 1921 Mexico 2 Peso I used to own. Always liked that particular eagle design.
  • I was actually thinking of doing something from a bill, because of my last name -- "Tew" -- like this:

    image

This is a crude version, and the shading doesn't match (I took the "TE" from a 1933 $10 Silver Certificate that was a little more worn, and the "W" from a 1928 $2 that was in better condition)

I'm not sure this would fit, though, and if I "squared" the image, it would look compressed. I have to think quickly about this, I guess.

  • Here's two other options, one based on my favorite Mexican Paper Money issuer, and the other one from the same bank, but more a play on my name:

I think the only image I'd want from a coin would be the balance scales from the BSP, but I have no expertise in photoshop, and am not sure that's what I'd want to use.

I like the first icon, but keep in mind that it has to be 100x100 or smaller.
  • Well, here's the idea I like the most (although I also like the idea of re-sizing the front doors of the Banco Minero):

I want to be able to take just the "S" with the 10 on top of it though, and make the rest of the image transparent, like in your icons, 2K. Is there a way to do that without photoshop (and without wanting to shoot myself because of Paint's free crop tool?)?

I was really gonna change mine but after my fiasco with Paypal and company I decided to keep it for now.

By the way, I changed my avatar tonight....so it's live now....maybe because the 15th is a Sunday? Change away...

Did you get to upload a new one or just change to one that was already there?

I've had one waiting for ages to upload and somehow messed it up and had to redress in a very old one.

  • I uploaded mine at 2 AM EDT today

I noticed earlier today it was turned on. I tried to upload, but mine was too big, even though it was 100x100 and 72dpi. So I spent about 30 minutes finding way to make the file smaller. When I went to upload ... turned off! Who the F is in charge of this? Why don't they post when it's going to be on/off? or just leave it on all the time? Really frustrating.

OK not complaining any more - discovered something interesting (that is worth posting):

Upload field did not appear on my Macbook! I was editing my avatar on my Mac (photoshop), and using Safari, Firefox nor Google Chrome worked.

Had to go BACK to my PC and use Internet Explorer in order to upload my avatar. NO WONDER the past three months have been frustrating. Turns out the Upload function is only compatible with IE.
