A lot of policies limit total coverage for collectibles unless they are on a separate rider or personal articles policy. There is also a proof of possession and condition issue unless he has a good photo. Another reason why a separate rider or specific collectibles insurance should be considered for high end items..
How do these stories even make it on the news? Do they call the news station and say "Do you want to do a story on my 52 Mantle that got stolen in a burglary?"
This reminds of the thread where the guy said he thought he had any baseball card he wanted, so in essence, he did have it. Since he thought he had it, there was no need to purchase it.
