So I wondering how many coins may have been net graded do to rim issues which are hidden by the old gaskets and are now receiving gold stickers

That was one of the examples I was think about
AU58 net graded to AU50 due to a rim cut you had to search for under light with a 10x loupe as it was burried in the gasket.

There's 3 sides to a coin Obverse, Reverse, Edge and only the TPG service has a chance to see it raw.
Another example that comes to mind is tough variety Petite Head 1c purchased and cracked out by a member only to discover a nasty rim cut hidden directly under the white prong.
makes me think of...if a tree falls in tha forest...better yet

Someone kept resubmitting a beautiful coin in the holder and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't upgrade. The graders kept seeing the edge problem and wouldn't upgrade it.
If I could use the search function well, I could probably find the thread.....

That is one of my concerns with the all the hoopla about grading the holders. No matter what 100% of the coin cannot be seen.

Good point as 50% +/- is still hidden today...
