"To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails, eBay has changed how User IDs display on the bid history page. Only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID, all other members will see anonymous user IDs, such as Bidder 1."
I sometimes wish we could see the bidders id to let people know if there is a scam taking place.
Back when I first started on ebay I put a bid in on a Roy Campanella signed 3x5 index card or so I thought. Somebody contacted me and said watch out because it wasn't signed, but a rubber stamp copy of his signature. It was early in the auction and I started doing a little research and turns out Roy was known to do this (don't know if it was before or after his accident) and there was another seller on a different site selling one that he said was a rubber stamp auto. Both 3x5's looked exactly the same. My one and only bid retraction and am very greatful that somebody pointed that out to me otherwise I would have lost some good money.

I talked to Ebay back when they first made that change, and they sold me on it being a good idea. In hindsight? Not so much.
FWIW, their rationale was to keep other sellers from contacting bidders/buyers and undercutting an auction, and to make sure that underbidders wer not contacted to do off-site deals "without Ebay protections"

Same with Ebay - a good day is one where the money comes in and they don't have too much turmoil - like an irate seller complaining that his auction got pulled without proof. They just don't want to get sued/threatened/harrassed by anyone, so they only pull auctions that they are 100% sure are "pullable" because they CLEARLY violate a rule.

In the end, I fault ebay for allowing the sale, the seller for trying to sell it and any potential buyer who buys a $1000 card for $30 and thinks "they got a good deal" instead of "I think I got ripped off"
<< <i>It still amazes me how folks are so trusting and will buy just about anything. I still look for St Mary or the face of St Peter to pop up on a slice of bread. When it does, it will go for big bucks and I am selling >>
Why wait any longer?
