What kind of stain?

Can someone help me identify this type of stain? I hear a lot about wax stains & gum stains but this type of stain (found in lower left corner) shows up on a lot of my mid 80's football. It sort of reminds me of grease stains on a cardboard pizza box. Would this be some sort of oil stain? If so, how does PSA look at these types?

Thanks!

Not sure what caused the stain but PSA does not discount much for them. It's enough to keep your card from a 10, but A 9 shouldn't be a problem.

I believe PSA/DNA can take a look at that stain to see what kind it is. But in the meantime please try to enjoy those cards just a little bit less.

I've noticed this sort of stain on cards from just about all of Topps' 80s era issues. I remember opening up packs in the 80s and seeing stains like that on the cards, so it must be some sort of impurity in the cardboard pulp they used, or something that got on the cards during the printing process (e.g. a worker spraying WD40 on something while cards are going through the press).

Is this enough of a stain to get an 'ST' label by PSA?

I don't know. I never tried to submit a card with that sort of stain.

that makes sense----I have a couple extremely sharp (cornered & centered) cards but they have the stain shown on the rice card is why i'm asking and i've been debating whether to send them in

Bought a sealed box from Steve last Nov. during the black Friday sale--- got a lot of nice cards but unfortunately a few of them had these oil stains--- just ripped a bunch of 83 Topps racks and got some really nice cards but a few have the oil stain as well. I wanted to know how PSA views these stains as compared to gum/ wax.

So you pulled it and that's how you came across the card. Makes sense.
