Turning raw into Gold into the centerpiece of my collection!!!

Today I received the centerpiece of my collection. Please see the pictures. Summary of the quick story. I bought a case of 2011 Bowman Chrome from BBCE on black friday for at the time a great great price 500 and change. I then pulled the card below.

I then took that card and sent it into bgs and got this

I then sold the card off of ebay for 2100.00, also sold a case of 2012 Bowman Jumbo that I had on preorder for a nice little profit and then bought the centerpiece of my collection!!!

Ive always like this card over the 52 topps for whatever reason. Even though the 52 is way more saught after. I remember as a kid being like 12-13 and going to a local flea market and seeing one of the card dealers have this card in his display case. I use to drool over the card. Well now I have finally landed one.
Any comments good or bad are welcome. Also you may notice a nick at the bottom of the case. Looks like a tiny chunk out of the case. Very small and the case looks solid, no scratches and or any signs of tampering. Maybe from psa like that? Maybe dropped?? Thoughts??
Thanks for the look!!!

Congrats on your pick-up. I am a huge MICK fan and that card really displays well for a "4". Love the centering.

Great pick-up. The 52T may be more iconic but the 51B Mantle and Mays have always been one of my favorites.

Awesome job!! That Mantle has outstanding eye appeal for a PSA 4! I would definitely have it re-holdered though. Maybe get it done at the National (if you're going) to save some stress over the shipping/wait time. Congrats!

First, let me say I love how you wheeled and dealed to your ultimate goal. I enjoy selling modern as well.

Second, I think it is a beautiful Mickey Mantle ROOKIE.

With that said, does the second scan look to you as he altered the picture to make the corners look even more square or is it just the size of the scan?

I think the Mickey is a great card and am in no way saying it does not deserve a four or better.

What I am curious is did the seller doctor the picture to even make it look better or am I seeing things?

My thoughts are that he cropped it on purpose to cut the nick out of the picture or sometimes when you scan something and dontgo in and crop it yourself, things like that happen as far as scans getting cut off. Just makes it a little suspicious thats all.

Congratulations on A, hitting a huge Harper like that. That had to be a thrill in its own right, and B, trading the Harper for the 51 Mantle. I think you bought a beautiful card, with fantastic eye appeal. I am huge a fan of that 51 Mantle. Enjoy it!

    UPDATE
After going back and forth with the seller about the nick in the case, I will be returning the card back to him as with the responses I do not feel comfortable with it now. Oh well if anyone has one thats graded a 3 or 4 and looks similar with this one, please let me know.
    Thanks

MAN, I feel bad for you considering how exited you were about the card. HOWEVER, when you are dealing with a card as expensive as that, you are better to err on the side of caution. Good luck with finding another.

Hard to tell because the card was scanned against a white background. Could you see frosting on the case? If you could not, and the case only had a small nick, you could get it recased for $5. It looks like a solid card, and a pretty good looking '4'. I know it is wise to err on the side of caution, but I would hate for you to turn in a super nice card for something as trivial as a tiny nick on the side of the case......

It was really hard to tell to be honest. I guess I should pay more attention next time with making sure to whole slab is included in the pictures and also clear pictures. This one did not offer the zoom for it, even though I could make my screen size bigger.
Im sure I will find another or hold out for a nicely centered one like that.
I guess I didnt want t run the risk of having it reslabbed and if there was an issue, id be out of luck with ebay.
  • i recommend you go to the show next month. buying these kinds of cards is best done in person imo
