oooh, I'm scared -- eBay Scam, am I the only one?

I got this twice from two different addresses. I can't imagine this approach being effective...

Carl
I emailed you last night to your OTHER ebay account. Your OLD on deathwish1fourstars seems to be not working (or you are not answering) I am dead serious about taking legal action against you and for mail fraud (selling proof sets that were NOT original and of poor quality) to people on ebay. I bought 3 of those sets and when I brought them to Stacks and another manhattan dealer I was told they were NOT original boxes, celephane and were "PROCESSED coins" Now either you answer me in this email or I am going to ebay, paypal, American express and the postal police. So now the balls in your court. I wrote you a letter by snail-mail a few months ago and of course you didn't answer it. So now you have 48 hours to respond or I am taking legal action. P.S. I have every email you ever sent me stating that you were an estate lawyer and got these sets from clients.

Who are the postal police?? Is there a new job opening with the Obama administration that I
was not aware? I don't want to work but I do want a job. Are they hiring?

Sorry, didn't mean to divert off topic but that just got me!

Are you an estate Lawyer? Do you know this jokel? Do you have another account on Ebay?

I use to get one from someone claiming to be the FBI and how I was gonna get in trouble if I didn't give them such and such info to check something I was supposedly doing. Well I just wrote them what I thought they could do with their mom and I haven't got anymore of those or much of the usually I am the blah blah blah of and you can get this money all I need is this info emails in a long time. I guess they figured I most be the wrong guy to correspond withimage

  • I will totally ignore it. I thought the account name mentioned was too bizarre to be real and checked it out. There was a seller by that name and there remains some feedback from a couple years ago:

This. The faster they figure out the trend, the faster they can shut it down.
  • Alas I didn't get the threat through the eBay message system, it came as regular email.

Say I do send it to eBay, does anybody have a pointer where that kind of thing can be sent?

I would imagine that it would be more effective if you call their toll-free number to talk to a higher-up guy.

A lot of these things are designed to suck you into more contact and each time one does, they get more information, and its effective. Even opening the email can send a read acknowledgement.

The folks that do this are evil. Up there with coin counterfeiters. I hope they all can't sleep at night (and worse!).

They obviously want attention or to possibily scam you. Just ignore them which will frustrate them.

Did you sell someone proof sets?

  • <<Did you sell someone proof sets? >>

Yes, over the years I've placed a few proof sets. I can't remember anybody ever buying 3, they all were singles sent out here and there over the past dozen years. There was positive feedback on them all.

    Response:

    Dear Unsatisfied,

It sure sounds like you aren't happy. Unfortunately I don't seem to recall the incident / items to which you are referring, or even having another account (darn memory!), but just to help you out, I'll go ahead and forward this to the eBay police and perhaps they and the Postal police together can figure out what happened.

    Regards,

    Carl

Following the logic(?) of your antagonist, the positive F/B wouldn't matter. He's saying problems were discovered at a later date. Maybe he bought the sets individually, and not three at once.

Whatever you do, don't respond to the email; all that does is show that you're a live email address that can be harvested and sold to spammers and scammers. And don't click any hot links in the email itself or you may be trated to a nice keystroke logger, virus or worm. Just forward the whole works with headers if possible to spoof@ ebay.com as was suggested.

I don't think I have a logical antagonist here, I think I have at least one scammer. Remember I got two of these emails from different addresses, different names, different accounts. If they were both from the same guy who is legit and has purchased proof sets from me over the years I'll be flabbergasted.
  • BTW I'm not an estate lawyer nor do I do biz with AMEX, nor do I have a second eBay acct, not even the one named. I just wanted to give a heads up to anybody who might also get this scam mail.

I got a couple "Dear John" letters from the same woman, once. I had to sign for the second one. She sent the latter with "signature confirmation".
